Are all kids' activities scheduled for the same day where you are? This whole Wednesday-is-not-a-real-school day thing means that just about everything happens on Wednesdays. I practically run a marathon getting DD from ballet class to kids' yoga and then when I mentioned something about how tiring it was, the other yoga moms told me they had done both kids' tennis and soccer in the morning, or an art class before yoga the same day.
These are definitely not Type-A "my kid has to be involved in every extra-curricular" kind of moms. If anything, they just want their kids to have fun and get some physical activity since most of the kids (per the moms of older French kids) find school so grueling and demanding here. DD is only in pre-school, but she definitely enjoys ballet and yoga far more than her regular time in school. Her preschool environment is definitely not as playful as it was in the U.S.
On a less exasperated note, I figured out how to find some moms with kids to hang out with!
Re: @ kids' activities where you are
We haven't got to that stage yet (N is only 13mths!) but that sounds really stressful! I can't imagine what it would be like if there was more than one child in the family with days like that... I do know that it sometimes happens with my brother and his family that there are conflicting schedules with sports (he has 4 kids) but I don't think everything is on the one day like where you are...
That is great that you have found some moms to hang out with!! Good for you!!
Nope there is something on everyday here. Although, Mondays look to be less things as oppose to the rest of the week.
Glad you found some moms to meet. Maybe some playdates are in order.
There is almost too much going on all the time here.
The problems is that 1) they mostly cost a fortune to do, 2) Classes for my 4.5 year old and my 2.5 year old never seem to happen at the same time, so it's difficult to organise and 3) many things for my 4.5 year old happen when she is at school after 1:00.
