Please help me salvage an Easter outfit from this mess! PIP

This is long and PIP heavy. I need a dress to wear for Easter (church, kids egg hunt, family dinner) and so I went to the mall and found a few dresses at F21 and a cardigan at the Ltd. The ensembles I put together in my head consisted of one of the dresses w/ the cardigan and boots I already own (re: boots- I live in the pacific nw and it will likely be in the upper 50's and cloudy if not rainy). Well, my styling efforts were a big time fail and now I need help salvaging something from this mess. I don't think i have room in the budget for new shoes, but I can run to target or kohls and get a new cheapy dress and/or cardigan. Please let me know if any of the dresses work and what to put with them. Alternatively other dress suggestions are welcome. Don't be afraid to be harsh, I don't want to look like a fool. Thx! This is embarrassing, but here is the outfit I thought might work. In my defense I thought the boots were more of a cognac color and not quite at clunky. I thought the stripes would work with the floral print, obviously not. Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos So the boots are out. I have some off white pumps I can wear. I just feel like it's a lot of exposed bare leg, especially in cool weather. Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos This dress is also way tight and short. Awkward photo, but here is how tightly it clings in the rear. So I'm thinking not church appropriate, though my church isn't super conservative or anything. Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos Next dress. This is actually the one I thought would be a home run. Here it is with the pumps. Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos And here with some cowboy boots I own. This isn't half bad IMO, but kind of casual compared to what the rest of my family is wearing. Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos Another dress I thought might work by itself without a cardigan. Again, it is tight and short and too much leg maybe. Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos I thought maybe belted. I have an abnormally short torso and I think most belting makes me look stumpy. Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos So can any of these dresses be saved? What color/shape cardigan would you suggest. Can I make the white pumps work? Belted, not belted? Thanks in advance!

  • i love the second floral dress with the cardigan and belt...but not the white pumps. granted....i don't really EVER love white pumps, but with the cardigan being more cream-colored....the white looks weird.
  • I like the last dress, belted, but would pair it with boots instead of the pumps.

  • I think that the navy blue dress with the first pair of boots is your best option.  The dress is dark enough to support the boots.

You're right. I didn't even realize how white the pumps looked w/ the cardigan. What color shoes would you do? Nude?

I agree with this. Do you have nude pumps? Then it would be perfect.

I like the navy stripe dress but I don't think it's dressy enough if you're going to church and family stuff.

nude or cognac would both be great with that.

  • Here is the navy dress with the boots. They are a walnut color IRL.

  • I think you should return the first dress, it looks to small for you.

The second is really cute and flattering! I don't mind it with the cardi, but the shoes are too light. Do you have nude pumps? Some tan or brown heels or wedges?

  • I really like the floral dress and striped sweater, but not with the boots.  Yeah, the dress is kind of tight, but if I had your figure I would definitely be fine wearing that to church.

I also like the navy striped dress with the skinny belt.

I love the pictures with the kids crawling all over you, lol.  I can relate.

I don't have any other pumps besides black patent. I do have cognac thick stap wedges, but they are open toe and I'm not sure I want to wear them given the weather. Also, they are a warm cognac color and I'm not sure they would go with the striped cardigan.

I might look for some nude pumps, but I just don't know if I can swing a decent pair right now.

  • I love the second dress with the boots! The third dress is great too. I'd probably return the first dress.

  • I like the navy dress with the boots even more now that I can see it. I would add back the skinny belt too:) Looks fabulous!

This. And, i feel you on what to wear for Easter in the rainy NW. I always envision wearing something springy, but then end up with my cute Easter dress hanging in the closet while I wear jeans, rain boots, & a fleece. Smile

  • Second dress with brown western boots.  Very cute!

  • You get an A in my book for even attempting to pull outfits together with kids climbing on you! I can relate: that's tough!

My pick is the third dress with your pumps. I'm not completely sold on the belt, but the dress needs something: it's a little blah unbelted/no other accessories. I would try to do a long pendant or another necklace: the belt would be the fallback option, IMO.

I think the third dress with boots is fine, but it doesn't scream 'church' and it definitely doesn't say 'Easter' to me, so the pumps get my vote for this weekend. For running errands on a typical weekend, I think the striped dress + boots would be cute and comfortable, just not for a holiday church service.

The first and second dresses are NMS: I don't think either are particularly flattering on you (and you have a great figure!) I'd return those.

  • My vote is for the blue striped with belt and boots :)

  • I really like the second dress with the cowboy boots--very cute. Second choice would be the striped dress with boots or a different pair of pumps.

  • I love the striped dress, but the second one looks more Easter to me.

FWIW, you are gorgeous. Totally jealous you have 2 kids and such an awesome bod.

    Yes

  • Just an FYI, Target has nude pumps that are very nice and look high end. Maybe $30.

  • Do you have a navy cardigan?  I like the second dress, belted, with a navy cardi and your boots.  They are clunky, but I think it that area it's much more acceptable than a more temperate region.

Another option is to get cream patterned tights to wear with the same boots and the striped dress with a belt.

  • 2nd dress w/ the cardi and belted w/ the boots.

Or the striped dress w/ the boots and a black skinny belt.

Love both of those options :)

I agree to return the first dress.

  • First or second dress with nude pumps and cardi, but not boots for this occasion.  BTW, I don't think the first dress is too small, it fits your body good :)
