Re: favorite online fabric stores?
Etsy has LOTS of fabric sellers. My favorite is http://www.etsy.com/shop/luckykaerufabric. She ships very very quickly and I feel like the shipping is affordable, especially if I just need a yard or two.
I drool over fabric at http://www.facebook.com/Skyerevefabrics7. I've never bought any there, but she has very very pretty stuff. She also does giveaways pretty often.
Otherwise I buy at Fabric.com or locally.
I have bought from all of these places and they have been great. Sky Reve has an Etsy store as well.

There are all for quilting cottons by the way. Not sure about availability of other fabrics. Approach spoonflower with caution. Prices are steep, but wow they have the greatest stuff!
Fabric.com for most because their prices on designer fabric are almost always a dollar or more less per yard than other sellers. Plus there is always a 20% off coupon code out there so it really brings the price down (and I take advantage of the free shipping).
Etsy has a ton...luckykaeru is one I have ordered from many times as with Intrepid Thread.
I also have ordered from random etsy stores if I know the fabric I want--I search, find the cheapest vendor (including shipping) and check their ratings.
