Fifty Shades of Grey anyone?

I got a sample of this book on my kindle because I have heard a lot of women crazy over reading this book. Its an erotic romance novel which I normally wouldn't read but all the stuff i am hearing about it makes me want to read it. Have any of you heard of this book?

This was originally a Twilight fan fiction. She published it and basically just changed the names of the characters. I just finished the fan fiction (I refuse the book). It's definitely racy. I don't think I would have liked the book at all. The fan fiction version, with the direct Twilight tie was entertaining, but it's not what I would call a good book. I think it's ridiculously over-hyped by the media. I think I gave it two stars out of five.

I certainly wouldn't pay for it. I have a pdf of the fan fic if anyone wants to read it. Just email me.

  • Definately heard of it, not overly interested. I kinda hate that she is making all this money off characters that were created by someone else. I wonder what Stephanie Meyer thinks of it?

This is pretty much why I read the fanfiction instead. It's still out there if you google and she doesn't make money off of that.

  • Heard of it and may read it but I can't handle too much sex or erotica in books.  Grosses me out.

Wait, explain this to me? Stephanie Meyer wrote the book? The new author took the book, changed the names, and published almost exactly the same story?

We are reading this book for my book club in June and I don't really want to spend my money on it. If I read the pdf that Jo has is it going to be a different story?

No, the author of the book originally wrote it as a Twilight fanfic. She pulled it from the web and published it, changing names and some other minor details. From reviews I've read on Goodreads, the story is almost exactly word for word the same. To me that's a violation of intellectual property rights. Fanfic is one thing, but profiting from it is another.

Don't read it. The first half is almost all sex and the rest has lots of it. I started skipping over it towards to end because it got boring.

OK I won't. I wonder why so many people raved about it.

  • I'm reading it and personally really like it. Great storyline in my opionion but yes there is alot of sex in the first book.
  • I was skeptical to read it as well- never been much for the more erotic books but I got sucked in, totally hooked. I'm just finishing the third book now (20 pages away) and I started it two days ago. The sex scenes get a bit repetitive but I still got sucked in. Have to say, having just gotten married I've been really enjoying reading the third book- the main characters acting the way they do and calling each other what they do (don't want to give too much away incase anyone here does want to read them), it's certainly kept me in the mood which the hubby appreciates I'm sure ;)
