What kind of time would you take?
If you were having surgery (going to be out two days), would you take sick time, vacation time or personal days? My company separates them, but doesn't give indication on what should be used. I

Sick time, but if your company is like mine, they keep a tab on hours of sick time and it gets reflected on your appraisal. So although it is less than 3 days, but definitely provide a doctor's note, and if you feel insecure at your job, definitly apply for FMLA, so your 2 days out of work would be protected.
To OP, sick time. Unless you don't have enough, then use a different option. My company designates sick, vacation, and two personal days but don't really care which you use or when. I think they should just do a bucket of paid time instead. I digress...
We do have seperated sick time and vacation; everybody earns 8 hrs/month sick time and you can keep all the sick time, vacation time is somewhere from 7 hr/month to 10 hr/month depending on your longevity. But you get to carry over xx hours to the next year. At the end of the year if you have used more 96 hours of sick that was not FMLA, you will get need improvement in the attendance category of your annual appraisal. Our HR makes up some rules that just does not make sense.
