Jobs my useless degree qualifies me for?
I have an A.S. in Social Work, which is fairly useless in the field, and a lying advisor cost me the scholarship I had to finish my BSW. I've spent the last 8 months working in a group home for adults with MH/MR, and I hate it. Can anyone think of something non-residential I might be qualified for? I'm not financially well off enough to pay for school and I'm too well off for financial aid. Loans aren't an option - I just got my first credit card, have no history, and DH's rating is too low from issues before we met to cosign.

Re: Jobs my useless degree qualifies me for?
You may want to ask the loan question on MM. There are some really smart ladies over there who might be able to help you out.
As far as your degree goes, I know it's not an option at the moment, but getting your BSW is going to be the best thing for you. I worked social work a couple years and there really weren't alot of jobs out there if you didn't at least have the BSW. Check out hospitals or non profits that require you to have some knowledge of social work, but no degree. You could also look at the county level to see if they have any social work assistants, or aides. It might still be a little bit of residential.
I can't think of any non-residential jobs... maybe in the not for profit sector? I also agree with the PP that stated you should fill out a FASFA and other aid papers. You should also apply for a loan, because you should still be able to get one. I did when I was 19 and I did not even have a credit card at the time. Granted, my parents cosigned but if you are married you husband does not need to. Also, if you need one, find someone else to cosign.
There are many many scholarship sites out there, you should be able to find a few with some good digging.
Good luck!!
You could work at a psychiatric hospital as a mental health worker or possibly a social work assistant, although the second one may require a bachelor's. It's possible that they may help with tuition ti finish your degree while you're working there.
I'm sorry you're in such a tight spot. It upsets me that we have to jump through so many hoops as social workers to make so little and never be able to afford school or pay back our student loans. (I have a MSW and my loans seem impossible to pay off-hoping that Public Service Loan Forgiveness works out).
Does your state offer CPST (Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment) as a Medicaid billable service? Or are there any agencies that offer day treatment Partial Hospitalization? Those are two medicaid services that at least in my state you don't need a license to bill for. There are many agencies that offer those services to children and in schools. Although its not technically therapy its still doing great work with kids about life skills, coping skills, etc. I would look into those.
Also, I have found that in non-profit/social service jobs there are not many postings on actual job websites. They prefer to post only on their own agency website, so I constantly check back to those instead of monster. good luck! I hope you can find the job of your dreams and make a difference!
Some ideas:
I know of someone who works for a law practice. She helps the clients apply for the federal, state and local aid programs like Medicaid, food stamps and other things they may be eligible for. The type of lawyer she works for is an elder care attorney, but I suspect that other types of lawyers, especially those probate attorneys who receive clients through the courts and are paid to manage estates, may also need this type of worker.
What about working intake in your county's various social service offices? Medical/maternity, food stamp, etc.?
Skilled nursing facilities, nursing homes and other institutions might offer you a more 9-to-5 schedule if you were to work in activities. Not exactly aligning patients with the services they need, but rewarding nonetheless.
Best of luck!
0I know a PP stated a hospital mh social worker, but most states require an MSW to work in medical social work. I do know you could work as a case management coordinator in a hospital, but it's mostly paperwork sending referrals for home health, etc. You can work in domestic violence, the residential setting would be a little different. You could work w/ youth in group home settings or become a parent aide which provides parenting skills and supervision of children removed by CPS (usually job via county or state).
I hope you decide to go back for your BSW.....I know you can't handle the loans right now, but the interest you would pay back that loan in the future (as long as it was through the gov't) would be much less than interest you would have on a credit card. If you went through a for-profit college for you A.S. unfortunately they set the interest rates, which can leave you screwed.
On Tuesday, the Internet was abuzz with admirers pointing to Billups? abrasion as addition archetype of the ?Clippers Curse.?
One problem. There is no Clippers Curse. What believers accede a anathema the blow of the apple considers a alternation of bad administration decisions.Cheap Nike Shoes Oh sure, there are times if players accept been injured: Blake Griffin absent his aboriginal division because of a knee injury. Danny Manning, the Clippers? top aces in 1988, blew out his knee in his amateur season. The aggregation traded two first-round picks for Tiny Archibald in 1977; one ages into the season, he tore his Achilles? bond and absent the absolute season. Bill Walton had a alternation of bottom injuries during his seasons with the team.
Some alarm that a curse, but added teams alarm it a day in the activity of an NBA team.

cott and Magic Johnson both adversity broken hamstrings during the 1989 NBA Finals, with Scott affliction his afore Bold 1 and Johnson during Bold 2. The Lakers were swept in that series. Cheap Jordan Shoes Or Magic backward afterwards testing absolute for HIV. Does anyone say the Lakers are cursed? No, because the Lakers admiral accept a history of authoritative astute abstract picks and trades, abrogation the aggregation in position to balance bound from setbacks.
Look at the Clippers? abstract history: In 1981, they drafted Tom Chambers, who went on to accept a solid career ? with Seattle and Phoenix. Afterwards he averaged 17.4 credibility for the Clippers, they traded him to the SuperSonics for James Donaldson, Greg Kelser and Mark Radford. To be fair, the Clippers did abstract a approaching Hall of Famer in 1981: Tony Gwynn, who is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1983, the Clippers called Byron Scott, again traded him to the Lakers. In 1984, they called Lancaster Gordon with the eighth all-embracing aces of the draft. Lancaster Gordon? Nike jordans shoes sales Meanwhile, eight picks later, the Utah Jazz called John Stockton. In 1985, with the third aces in the abstract and with Chris Mullin, Detlef Schrempf, Charles Oakley, Karl Malone and Joe Dumars all available, the Clippers selected, delay for it, Benoit Benjamin. (By the way, that year the Lakers called A.C. Green with the 23rd pick.)
We could play the ?name the bad abstract pick? bold all day. In 1987, the Clippers had three first-round picks. They went with Reggie Williams, Joe Wolf and Ken Norman. Remember Danny Ferry? Bo Kimble? LeRon Ellis? Randy Woods? Terry Dehere? Lamond Murray? Michael Olowokandi?
So, no, there is no Clippers Curse. There was just a alternation of abhorrent amateur cadre decisions fabricated by the team.Which seems to accept afflicted this division beneath new General Manager Neil Olshey. Who is apparently busily aggravating to ample the aperture Billups? abrasion leaves.
