downpayment assistance
My DH and I will be looking to buy a house after we move from NJ to upstate NY later this spring. Due to the cost of moving, I'm afraid to look at houses right away because we couldn't have much of an e-fund after moving and downpayment/closing costs. My dad recommended I look into downpayment assistance programs...is anyone here familiar with a successful program?

We have something like this in NH. It can either be 2% or 4% of the purchase price towards downpayment and closing costs, but you have to bring at least 1% additional of your own money to the table. And ours has salary caps on it as well.
Honestly I don't think we're going to be using it since it comes with a higher intrest rate. We are able to keep the monthly payment the same and finance more of the purchase price with that lower intrest rate.
I think you need to run the numbers both ways to see what works best. I would check to see if there is a state agency for this.
