As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. I can see why she would be offended by JFC. Maybe even JC. I don't get OMG.
I have a friend who is religious and I've seen her cringe when I've said things like "holy Hell" or "Jesus you scared me", so I have curbed back on the usage. She is my friend and I care if I offend her.
On a public internet forum... you get what you get.
I don't even want to touch the whole murder =/= fibbing or offending those of another religion =/= calling someone retarded.

She's not kidding. That's actually a really accurate synopsis so far.
I added to it. Someone compared using Jesus/Christ/Lord etc in vain to using your mother's name in a similar fashion.
My mom has a funny (old-fashioned) name and it is routinely cursed by complete strangers. I had to share.

I had to stop reading. I can't stand it when someone literally cringes at JFC or Hell or OMG. They're words. Stop being a drama hor.
Her offensive over the words people are using without any malicious intent is just another example of why I dislike overly religious people. They appear to care far too much about what's going on in my life, and they LOVE judging me for it.
I hate political correctness. As I said in my post in that thread, we're all going to be reduced to pointing and grunting, because someone, somewhere will be offended by every word ever known to man. People are way, way too offended by way too much.
Pointing is offensive in many cultures, you know. You are going to have to stick to grunting.
Okay, so she's offended... but to liken it to people using slurs against black people and gays? Really?
Please, go on, tell me all about how being a Christian in the USA makes you a poor, oppressed minority where people take your lord's name in vain to cause harm to you, oppress you, and slur you.
In less sarcasm- a lot of so-called "taking the lord's name in vain" stuff is actually a beseech, which if anything just underlines a lot of people's Christian heritage. God damn it = Literally, I hope God damns (x). Jesus take the wheel, Oh sweet jesus, Sweet mother of God, Jesus Mary and Joseph- a lot of these are pretty much the verbal equivalent of crossing yourself, so I guess she takes offense at people who aren't as devout or devout at all using them, even though they're bonafide colloquialisms?

But you have to give AW credit for really splitting the hairs on that sort of argument. Early on in the thread she was talking about blasphemy being a sin which is why it's offensive, but as soon as I pointed out other sins, she says that's different. And when I pointed out that her "doing something that knowingly offends someone else is rude" stance means P&CE can just stop discussing politics altogether, she says it's not opinions that are offensive, it's the means of expressing them that are offensive.
Like BBE said earlier, it gets pretty tiring trying to pin her down.
I really want to post an Aristotle quote in response to her, "If you keep using the Lord's name in vain, you don't truly understand" crap..
It's the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
There's also a lot of tone argument- somehow because she's saying it "nicely' means what she's saying is more valid than the people refuting her using less nice language? Really? Yeah that's not really how it works, ugh.
