Tips on using "beach" spray for hair?

I want to try one of the beach-y hair sprays this year. After talking to the ladies at Beauty Brands, I decided to try Blow's Beach Blow.

Any tips on using this? I have long hair that isn't very thick, but also isn't terribly thin - kind of medium thickness I guess. It has some natural wave, but it isn't uniform enough to just wash and go. Usually I either flat iron or curl it.  Should I spray it in wet, scrunch it up, and let it air dry? Spray and scrunch, then blow dry?  Blow dry it and then spray and scrunch it?  Curl it and then spray it in to add texture and make the curls less uniform? Any other tips? TIA!

  • It sounds like your hair has a similar texture to mine, and I always start by washing my hair, and rinsing it out with my head upside down under the faucet (while scruncing it), so it has a little more volume and texture. Then spray the beach spray in while it's wet (also with my head flipped down), then scrunch and air dry.

That may not have made any sense, but I hope it's semi-helpful at least.

  • I always get the best effect when I towel dry then spray it in with my hair upside down and scrunch. I will usually take a flatiron to it to touch up a little. It usually holds all day when I do this!

  • I towel dry, then spray it in with my head upside down and scrunch, then air dry. I use Aquage Sea Salt texturizing spray.

if I blow dry, it blows out my wave (not good). if I use a diffuser, it makes my hair curly instead of beachy-wavy.

  • In addition to the method described above, you can spray then twist up some of the top sections of your hair. Pin them for a while and then use your fingers to separate the waves. I usually do this during the day for when I want something a little extra for going out.
  • Thanks for the tips! I'll try scrunching with my head upside down and air drying and see if that gets it wavy enough. If not I'll try twisting and clipping.

I use this spray daily and that is exactly what I do.
