AW and PIP: My first Japanese garment
Admittedly, I picked a VERY VERY easy pattern to get my feet wet in the world of Japanese patterns...but I finished my first one yesterday! There are more details and pics in my blog if you are interested (but no pictures of LA in it--she's such a diva lately). Overall, I am pleased with how it turned out and was not scared off from trying more

And I promise the hem is straight--but the angle of the hanger kept throwing it off and I couldn't be bothered to worry about it!

Re: AW and PIP: My first Japanese garment
love it!!
If you ever get really stuck, I have an old friend who is now living in japan that I might be able to pester for a translation.
Thanks for the offer!!
I am actually really lucky that I have two local resources one of who teaches Japanese at GSU (both are parents of kids I have taught). I may ask them to translate a few things for me so I can get an idea of what is being "said." Until then, I am sticking with easy-peasy patterns

I love it, that is so pretty!
Are Japanese patterns particularly interesting?
Where does one find Japanese patterns? Do they come in adult sizes?
L'isle Sur la Sorgue, Provence
I've seen books of Japanese patterns for adults here. I actually have one for purses, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.
I guess I should try it out soon...my daughter (who lives in Japan and is fluent in Japanese) is coming to visit in June and could help me out. Maybe she can bring me some more books....hmmm.

I guess the interesting part for me is that the Japanese style is a much simplier, classic look that is often harder to find in American patterns. The challenge is the langugage
I guess I equate it to how Ottobre has a different feel than American styles.
They do make adult patterns. I don't sew clothing for myself, but I have read that the women's clothing runs much smaller and is not as fitted as we are used to.
TBM--you should totally get her to bring you some books, but more importantly--FABRIC!!! They have the most delicious fabric....

Unfortunately, she and I have very different taste, so I don't trust her to bring me anything that I actually want. lol
I am going to start saving up for the next time we go to Japan, so that I can bring home a lot of fabric. The last time I was a bit overwhelmed by the selections (to be honest, I was just a bit overwhelmed by Japan-lol)and didn't bring home much. We didn't really have much time to shop for fabric, so that was kind of annoying....I could have spent an entire day in just one of the shops.
