Thoughts on this graph?

I think it's an interesting visual representation of the deficit's growth since 2001. Will likely send the loud mouthed Cons into a tizzy on my FB feed.

While Obama's policy contributions might not tally much as far as area under the curve, the slope of his increase is nothing to be all that proud of, frankly.  If you compare the "top" of the blue triangle to the bottom, the cost of the Bush policies was at least declining in rate of increase.  Obama's policies have sped it up. I'm not saying that I don't agree with the spending decisions, but Obama doesn't come off looking totally innocent here either - and I voted for him in '08 and will do so again.

  • Now that the economy is improving is there still the argument that raising taxes would kill growth?

(I am not suggesting that we can tax our way out of this mess, moreso looking at the contribution to the deficit from tax breaks)

Agreed.  I do think, though, that it helps with the whole "Obama is the cause of all t his mess!" dramatics I hear. He's not. He was dealt a crap hand.

The contribution based on tax breaks is really something, isn't it? Double the cost of the wars.
