So the MOM is freaking amazing

I'll post a full review on Monday, but so far I can't believe how well this works!  I'm going on 5 hours since applying.  Typically I am quite shiny about 4 hours after putting on my makeup, and I powder all over, which gets me through another 4 hours.  Well, at five hours with no touch ups, I'm still completely matte AND I spent three hours outside at a playground running around with my son.  Normally I'd be an oil slick by now!  I'll probably go to bed in about four hours, so I'll see how my skin is looking after 9 hours with no touch ups.  So far, this is looking like $3 very well spent.

Carrots - you really need to try this so you can tell me how it compares to the Murad!

  • That's great to hear! I have such oily skin and have been looking around like crazy for something that will work (that's cheap). So far I'm using witch hazel toner and that's working really well, but I'm definitely going to try MOM as well! Thanks!
  • tell me the truth....does it smell? have a weird texture? what is the catch?

I may try it once my skin calms dow...it's broken out and I need to get it back to normal first ....stupid Garnier BB cream

No Catch! Its super easy and works well. I apply with a cotton ball and get it wet but not soaked. I put it all over my face. I have been using it all week and love the results.

I really need to try this.  The Murad isn't working well enough for me to justify the price.

  • I practically stuck my nose in the stuff to see if I could detect any smell, and there is no scent at all.  I used it very liberally with a soaked cotton ball.  It was a little cold and  just felt like I was dotting water all over my face.  When it dried (like 1 min later), there were chalky spots, so I just took a dry cotton ball and brushed those spots until they were gone.  I swear, you could put the exact same product into a fancy looking tube, call it mattifier, and it would sell for $30.

The only drawbacks IMO are having to live with the fact that you wear laxative on your face and dealing with the ugly bottle instead of pretty packaging.  The mouth of the bottle is also big (I guess since normal people use more than a cotton ball full :), so I poured a bit of it into the lid and then dipped the cotton ball into it that way.  You can't just hold a cotton ball over the top and hold the bottle upside down to soak.  That is seriously the only complaint that I have.

  • I am fairly new here. What is MOM?

Eta: never mind just saw your other post.

  • I just read some reviews on makeup alley, just be careful not to use too much or too often.  Seems like some people said it may dry your skin out or cause breakouts.  I would start off with sparse amounts at first and work your way up if there are no adverse reactions.
  • Can you f/u with us in about a month or so.  I just did some reading and the biggest complaint is that its drying, I'm curious to hear your experience with this.

  • Yeah, I could see how this could possibly be too strong and suck up so much moisture that it dries out the skin.  I didn't even think of that. I'll apply less and experiment with how much I really need to get good results. I'm definitely going to keep up with it unless I have a problem with it, so I'll update.

I doubt it will make me break out, though. I have sensitive skin in that it gets irritated and turns red easily, but I'm not at all acne prone. I've never had any kind of product make me break out with acne. If this makes me break out, then people definitely need to stay away from MOM!

  • When I was using MOM for shine control, I did this:

Got one of these $1 spice jars from bed bath and beyond:

Then I filled it with a mixture of 50% MOM and 50% water.  It looked a lot nicer on my vanity, I could just put a cotton ball on top and not worry about MOM pouring out everywhere, and the 50/50 mixture was enough to get rid of the shine without drying out my skin.

How long did you use it and why did you stop?  Cutting it with water seems like a good idea.  I applied sparingly again today, and it still did great, but I worry about it being drying.  I have some travel toiletry bottles and think I'll start with 2/3 MOM and 1/3 water and see how it does.  The travel bottle will fit into my cosmetics case.

  • I used it for about 6 months and loved it. I have zero complaints. I stopped because my acne cleared up and I stopped having a problem with oil, so it wasn't necessary anymore.  If that problem comes back, I'd use MOM again in a heartbeat.
