Admittedly, I've only seen the show a couple of times, and it was unintentional both times (just happened to catch it on E! after the original airings).
Anyways, in the last episode, Nikki created this insanely awesome maxi dress as her "high end" look:

I LOVE the pattern here. Great fabric choice, IMO, and thus I fell in love immediately and went to check it out on the H&M site, since H&M bought it:

Soooo disappointed in the fabric choice here. The pattern doesn't match up and it just looks kinda cheapy to me. Granted, I realized they had to take a high-end look and translate it in to a low-end look, but couldn't they have at least found/created a pattern that was consistent? Or at least closer to the colors of the original?
As a result, I decided to compare some of the other looks and noticed some other changes the stores have made that I feel just kind of take away from the original designs. I realize buyers/stores do this all the time in order to make designs more wearable, but in the case of the H&M dress, I think it made it worse.
Re: Fashion Star watchers?
I almost bought that but I feel the same as you. The new fabric sucks, and even if I could get past the color difference, the fact that the pattern doesn't line up at all really bothers me. Even at $40 or whatever it's not worth it.
I think Nikki is selling to boutiques now though, not just through this show. A boutique here in Chicago has been posting a lot of photos of Nikki's dresses, and they look gorgeous.

I'd rather pay more and get the beautiful prints and cuts that she's known for.
I just checked and she is selling directly from her website too: http://www.nikkipoulos.com/

That H&M version is such a let down. Ugh. It looks horrible!
I totally agree with you, OP. I've watched every week and have been so excited to see the pieces translate into the commercial market. But for the most part, I've been disappointed with the patterns/colors that ultimately make it.
I also don't really agree with the pieces the buyers decided to buy and the ones they let go. The yellow coat from last week was ADORABle and nobody bought it because they didn't think yellow would sell. Really?
And yet this train wreck sold?
I was mad the one week Orly's dresses that were SUPER adorable didn't sell because the buyers "weren't sure how to display it". Really? They were awesome and totally wearable.
