I'm trying to put together a list of places I need to go while we're still here, so lay them on me. What specific places have you been to and loved or are dying to see?
Re: Poll: SE Asia must sees

Luang Prabang, Laos
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
Bangkok- for the grand palace
Bali- particularly goa gajah (the elephant cave)
Boracay- Phillipines
Rangoon and Mandalay- Burma
* Ayutthaya

* Langkawi
So Tasty, So Yummy
We have been there- it is really beautiful but not really touristy (as in there are one or two good hotels but the rest are more rustic!)
We have been scuba diving and jungle treking. The Mentawai Islands are gorgeous.We also visited the Orang-utan santurary here

I suggest going with an ethical company such as SOS rather than some of the tourist operators that just want to make a buck and don't have the concerns of the animals at heart.
We also stayed at Satwa Elephant lodge through this site.

We loved it but it wont be to everyones liking. Our friends call us the hippies (like nature, vegan/vegetarian, eco friendly and into conservation). But if you liked Borneo then you will like Sumatra. I would also suggest PNG. Some of the best wildlife in the world and relatively untouched by corporate tourism.
We basically like going to places that tourists don't go to. This is my parents travel philosophy as well. I remember going to Phi Phi Don (in the 80's and 90's) before it was trashed by tourists and was depressed last time we went (for a wedding) and ended our stay early.
No way two weeks would be the perfect amount of time. You could do costal and highlands that way and see all aspects of the country. there are lots of great Islands to visit and the diving is great. Fishing is also another popular thing (we don't fish) but my dad has friends that go every year. The people are also amazing!
Both mine and H's grandfathers fought in PNG during WW2- my GF was a POW on the Kokoda track. We plan on doing the trek in the next few years. I did it once before with a group of students and it was amazing.
I spent 4 months in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia last year. The highlights for me were the following:
Thailand: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Sukothai, Ko Lanta, Ko Lipe, and a non-touristy town dubbed Happy Place: http://www.surroundedbythesound.com/?p=1169 (feel free to contact me on the email in my blog if you want to know more about Happy Place).
Laos: Luang Prabang and the 4,000 Islands were nice, but what really stood out to me was our three day scooter trip through the Bolaven Plateau.
Cambodia: Kampot and Kep, two sleepy towns in the south, were two of my most favorite places on my whole round the world trip. I also liked Battambang and of course Angkor Wat.
Vietnam: I really enjoyed our Easy Rider tour through the Central Highlands region (where two Vietnamese men rode us around for 2 days on the back of their motorcycles). I also liked Saigon, Hanoi, and Hoi An.
Malaysia: Cameron Highlands and the Perhentian Islands.
Have fun exploring!
