How do bang trims work?

I recently got bangs(ish) and am due for a bang trim.  I've never needed one before.

How do they work?  Do I make an appointment, or just show up at the salon (it is around the block so I walk by it often)?  Do I go to my normal stylist, or anyone who is there?   How long does it take?  How much do I tip?

Thanks!

Re: How do bang trims work?

  • I would make an appointment same day, just to make sure my stylist was in.  Usually they can squeeze you in between their regular appointments even if they are busy, but it's better to check first rather than just walk in. It takes about 15 minutes for a trim. When I worked in a salon (as a receptionist) they charged $10 or $15 for a bang trim, regular hair cuts were $55. I would tip $4 or $5. I'm sure you could see someone else if your regular stylist was not in, but I always prefer to see my stylist personally.

  • My salon offers free bang triming. They say to just come in when you're ready, no appointment needed. If you are picky about your stylist, I'd go in on a day they are working, and maybe make an appointment.  I would tip a couple bucks.
  • Bang trims are free at my current salon and most of my past salons. I've never needed an appointment, but it certainly can't hurt to call and ask.

  • At my salon, bang trims are free. I always call to book an appointment so I know my stylist is available. It usually only takes her about 5 minutes to cut and style them.

    Hope this helps!

  • Do you tip on the free bang trim? I know my stylist offers them, but I have never bothered.

That is a 40% tip on a bang trim which I think is a bit much. My stylist doesn't charge for the in between bang trim, but then I usually give her about $10. It doesn't hurt to walk in and see what their policies are about bangs. Who knows they may be able to fit you in or give you a time to come back. I wouldn't go to any one in the salon only the person who does my hair.

  • I make an appointment, because I usually bring DD with me so I don't want to have to wait.  My stylist doesn't charge for bang trims so I just tip a little extra on my haircuts.
