Bare shoulders in church a no-no?

Is this an outdated "rule"? I have a maxi dress with spaghetti straps I'd like to wear for Easter mass....

 Thank!

Btw a regular mass at my church ppl wear anything from jeans to suits...

Re: Bare shoulders in church a no-no?

  • I doubt it would be a big deal, but I say yes, particularly on Easter.  If it was a wedding, I'd feel differently.  Do you have a cardigan or shawl you could cover up with?
  • It depends on your church, and how you accessorize the dress.

    Also a pic may help.

  • I would wear something to cover the shoulders.  Plus, churches are usually cold, so you prob. will need something.
  • Living in Florida I wouldn't necessarily shy way from sleeveless dresses, but I would say spaghetti straps may be pushing the boundaries a little bit. (at least from the perspective from older church members)

I agree with this. I'd wear something to cover your shoulders...

  • It depends on the church, though most Catholic churches I've been to prefer that shoulders be covered (I'm assuming you're talking about a Catholic mass).

  • All of the churches I go to also do jeans but I still wouldn't show bare shoulders. I also never wear jeans so I get that I'm a bit conservative when it comes to these things. I'd probably throw on a light button down cardigan for the service but immediately take it off afterward.

  • I guess I would tend to ask, why not wear a cardigan?  It seems like the safest choice to go with more coverage than less on the chance that someone may feel it's inappropriate.  Plus Easter seems like a holiday where people who might normally wear jeans to church would wear something a little nicer.
  • I'd wear a cardigan over it.
