Our 3 month old puppy that we adopted from the humane society one week ago got really sick three days ago. We took him into the vet and found out he had giardia and needed to be hospitalized for treatment and because he was so dehydrated. He was doing much better yesterday and hey said he could come home today. We speak with the vet today and she said he was still having diarrhea and vomited and she wanted to check and see if the giardia was gone and run another parvo test(first one was negative). Ok so we waited after 2 hrs called and the tech said they hadnt done the tests yet. He told me they would call as soon as they were done. One hour later we call, and they are closed for the day!!! Wtf! No call back, no idea if our puppy has parvo, and no emergency number to call. I left a message about how worried/upset I am about not being informed. If we plan to pick up our dog on Saturday, and he is too sick we better be informed about what is going on and come up with an action plan. Plus the tech could have told me they were closing. No I have no idea how my puppy is or how to get ahold of anyone until Monday! What should I do? Any idea or am I stuck waiting and worrying? Sorry about the rant/formatting
Re: Puppy in hospital...what do I do?
To make you feel my love.
They must have an emergency number, wouldn't they?
Regardless I would be pissed and would be looking for a new vet.
The number refers to the nearby emergency clinic. I am pissed and will never use them again.
For a regular vet office that is typical. I don't know if any vet office (with the exception of a 24 hour emergency vet) where I could call and talk with someone after hours. The fact that they did not update you on his status before closing is concerning, especially since you called to ask. Honestly I would guess that the test came back negative and they simply forgot to call. Not that it makes it better.
To make you feel my love.
Personally I'm not comfortable with a sick animal being in the hospital when no one is even there to check on it. I'd definitely be going elsewhere.
