Musicians / Musician S/O??

DH's birthday is soon and he wants an instrument. He's been drooling over a digital drumset but the problem is it's 620 euros. He also said a traditional local drum or a digital piano would be interesting. Problem is that it looks like the pianos are around the same price.

I found this: http://www.zzounds.com/item--IONIED12 on Spanish Amazon. If anyone is a percussionist, what do you think?

Re: Musicians / Musician S/O??

  • I only play piano, but I will say that any worthwhile digital keyboard will definitely be expensive. I could only afford a dumb little keyboard, but I needed it to practice my music for choir and it kept me entertained enough. But anything touch-sensitive and decent was a lot more.

  • 620? isnt bad fir a drumset, maybe even a good dreal. The question is what does he want to do with it? Does heknow how to play or is it to play with? If he plays a decent instrument is worth the money. If he wants to learn get him a few lessons and then talk to the teacher and find something that will work for the situation. If its to pay with get a local drum that way he has something from there to keep if and when you leave.

  • He's a percussionist and has been dying to get back into playing. Unfortunately, apartment life doesn't permit for a traditional drum kit.

I found a much cheaper kit, but I'm not sure what to think. He says we haven't got the cash. He's half right, but the other thing is it'd technically a tool for work.

  • If he wants to start playing professionally he needs a quality instrument, there's no getting around it. The only people who can get away without having a GOOD instrument at home are pianists (their instrument is always provided for them, all the rest of us have to bring ours with us) and that's pushing it still. If you compromise on the quality it will show in the sound. So again it's what does he want to do with it.
