Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes died.

He was 93, so not surprising, but still sad. He is the face of 60 Minutes to me.

So, that is two. Who is going to be three?

Re: Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes died.

  • I can remember watching him and Morley Safer and Harry Reasoner when I was a little kid - we only got one channel - a million years ago. Investigative journalism is so important to a democracy. RIP.
  • He was indeed the face of 60 Minutes. He will be missed :(

  • The day the ticker stopped.  :(. Don McLean should write a song.  Every 4th tick a clap, every 2nd after the clap a stomp.  Everybody loves a song with a clap.
  • :-(  Still, 93?  We should all be so lucky.

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

  • Aw, that is sad. Mike Wallace was an American institution!

  • His openness about depression/mental illness was something I admired and respected about him.  A man, his age, being willing to basically be a face for all of us that suffer? Then you add his inspiring career on top of that?  Just awesome.

Rest In Peace, Mike Wallace. You'll be missed by many.

  • We had the same birthday. 64 years apart.

You must be extra sad then.  Like I'll be when Denzel Washington dies.  Or Joe Diffie.  Or Woodrow Wilson, if he hadn't died yet.

Well, the other people who share my birthday are Candace Bergen and Billy Joel, so Mike Wallace was kind of the cream of the crop.

Listening to the news this morning was actually inspiring. That he didn't know that he was great, and struggled to think of himself as adequate... it made me pause and reflect on myself.

Yeah I'd have to go with Billy Joel.  Mike Wallace was, what, 93?  After all, Billy says Only the Good Die Young.
