Tips for traveling (flying) with an infant

We're taking our first flight with DD in 2 weeks. It's a 4 hour non-stop flight from Orlando to Denver (Frontier Airlines on the way and United Airlines on the return) We are bringing her car seat and she will have her own seat on the plane.

I would appreciate any tips from anyone if you have first hand experience bringing your LO on a flight. ....how to keep her entertained, especially! She's mobile and loves to crawl, pull up on things, and cruise around. We bought her a seat in hopes that she might take a decent nap in it like she does in our car.

Re: Tips for traveling (flying) with an infant

  • Just in case you haven't, make sure to check that the car seat is FAA approved.

I basically let W play with anything (magazines, water bottles, our watch) for our flights. We've flown with him a bit, but the newness of the plane keeps him entertained for a bit, too. Have plenty of snacks/drinks. W drinks so much more on flights than he normally does.

  • DD has always done well in her car seat - usually sleeps some or most of the flight. She's also fascinated by all the activity going around.  Bring lots of snacks/a  new toy.  DD loves music so I sing songs to her a lot too (and she just started watching dvd player).  Is the flight around nap time? Try to make sure she has something to drink for take off/landing to help with cabin pressure.

  • We have flown many times with DD.  Snacks are key!   I agree with others about bringing a new toy too, and aportable DVD player/iPad if you have one (although, this has been more beneficial as DD has gotten a little older).

When DD still used a pacifier, we made sure she had one for take offs and landing (if she wasn't drinking something, which also helps).

    Brings lots of wipes too!

Also, make sure to get wings for the baby book Big Smile
