WDW Marathon/Half registration?

We're scheduling a family trip to Florida around this race in January.  Registration opens tomorrow morning at 10. Does anyone know if it sells out quickly?  I think SIL is going to run the half and I want to let her know.

The other thing...I'm sort of thinking about doing the full, but am not sure I want to commit to another full before finishing this first one.  Does anyone know if I can move down from the full to the half (before I make myself crazy searching on the website)?

Re: WDW Marathon/Half registration?

  • I've been researching it because I'm thinking of making this my first marathon.

From what I've read, it usually sells out in the summer but some people expect the marathon to sell out quicker since it's the 20th anniversary of it.

There is a transfer fee (I think $25) to transfer between races.

  • The Goofy pretty much always sells out first (that is doing both the half and then the full the next day), then the 1/2, then the Marathon. They tend to sell out by fall but as the pp said it might go faster due to it being the 20th anniversary. You have until 6/17 or 18th before the price goes up. They will post updates on the website about capacity (ie, it's 72% full!) so you can always keep an eye out. It doesn't fill up as fast as other races mostly 1) because it's faily expensive and 2) they don't offer prize $ for winners so people only run it "for fun".

Also, you can transfer between races but only if they are not at capacity when you try to transfer.

I have this wild idea to sign up for the Goofy Challenge. I've done 3 marathons but haven't done any in a few years due to health issues. So I'm waiting on signing up and seeing how my training goes before I commit to spending that much $$$.

    Good luck!
