Study: Race relations through a child's eyes
Anderson Cooper details the results of a study
commissioned by AC360? to explore children's perception of race. In Part
I of the "Kids on Race: The Hidden Picture" series, an
in-depth look at how young children interpret ambiguous drawings and
understand interracial friendships.
It's a video that I can't link here, so go check it out.
Re: Study: Race relations through a child's eyes
I watched this last night. It was interesting what kids think and then to see or hear the parents reactions to the interviews of the kids.

fascinating
After last week's discussion I bought Nutureshock and I am in the middle of the Race chapter. The book and this video have opened up my eyes so much to how I approach teaching J about race. Pretty much we don't talk about it a ton and I now realize that is wrong. I assumed because he was at a diverse daycare and we aren't hateful people that was all I needed to do at present moment. Wrong
So like I said this is one of my new favorite topics. I feel as if I am growing. :-)
Ditto.
I grew up in an overly PC environment where the words "black", "brown", and now I've learned "dark," shouldn't be uttered around black people, so it's hard for me to sort of unlearn those things to talk about race happily and openly.

Say what now?
Interesting. Where did you get this information?
Butternut -
Darkie.

Do ya'll need me to go on?
OK, yeah, but still. Something about it ain't right.
ETA: Deleted my edit
I am going to need for you to get in the corner. Why are you making me laugh at something so serious??
I don't know. I'm just thinking what she might say and how to keep her from getting cut.
*kicks dirt*
Dayum, I ain't even been on here much of the day and I'm ALREADY in timeout?
*starts speaking in Naomi gibberish and pointing her finger*
Then you must see my FB wall. She was apparently letting me have it for not letting her play on the laptop. I imagine this is what I must sound like when I go off on my rants at the office.
