I differed my registration for the local half marathon last year and early registration will open up soon. We are currently TTC (with help from fertility drugs) and I am torn on whether to register or not. The race is in January, so I could be pretty pregnant by then or I could still be on TTC train. This would be my 5th half if I do run. I differed last year due to a miscarriage that caused some emotionally tough times. I also stopped running and will need to get back in running shape for this half which I am ready for. I miss the feeling of knowing that by the time most people were getting up, you'd already sweated your heart out.
WWYD? TIA.
Re: WWYD: TTC and half marathon
I was TTC during my last half. I ended up testing positive the following week when I ran our local turkey trot. I think it's a great stress relief with everything that you're going through. I'd talk to your doctor and as long as they OK it then I'd go for it. It's not like you're going to start today and then run 13 miles this weekend. If you train properly you should be fine. Plus it might help take your mind off the constant TTC mindset.
Good luck!
I'm sorry for your loss, and for your struggle.
As for your question, that's a tough call, especially since January is so far away. (meaning, there's a good possibility that you could be KU'd by then.) How much is the registration? I would probably register, and train, but then if you do get pregnant, then don't run. And if that is the case, I don't think you'll mind sitting it out, since you'll have such a good reason and you'll want to do whatever you can to protect baby. KWIM?
It's a GIRL!

I would do this.
Find another race in the mean time like a 10K that you can train towards and that will keep you motivated.

First off, I am sorry for your loss.
Second, as someone who has been unsuccessfully TTC for almost four years, my advice is to sign up for the race. Infertility can consume your entire life and convince you to put things on hold. Don't let it! The possibilities...
1. You sign up, don't get pregnant, race, and feel pretty good about doing something good for yourself.
2. You sign up, get pregnant, race or not (depending on how the pregnancy is going, etc.), have a little baby, and feel pretty good about it.
3. You don't sign up, get pregnant, have a little baby, and feel pretty good about it.
4. You don't sign up, don't get pregnant, watch everyone else run that half-marathon, and think to yourself "I should have signed up."
I did #4 a couple of times. It sucked. Sign up and start training. Don't put things off because of what might happen. Unfortunately, it might not.
THIS. I have found that it really has helped me to deal with the IF issues and not only that but you are setting yourself up to be healthy/fit during you time TTC. Good Luck!

I'm sorry to hear that some of you are also dealing with infertility and I really appreciate your thoughts.
Trigal- you said exactly what I have heard DH say--"you can't put life on hold". It is just taking a bit long to learn that.
The registration opens in May and the fee is $105. Houston is now part of the lottery bandwagon so it's definitely a smart idea to register for a guaranteed spot if/when possible. Thanks again!
