Landlord Dwelling Insurance Companies?

Hi!

I'm about to rent my home out while living in a new one and I am finding it a bit challenging to find out all the companies that do offer landlord dwelling coverage. My current company does not offer it so I have to look elsewhere. So far I can tell Metlife, USAA, maybe Safeco offers it, who else do you know would offer it? We are hoping to do a combo policy for 2 houses and our cars with one company. Thanks!

Re: Landlord Dwelling Insurance Companies?

  • We had one through State Farm at one point but I'm not sure if they still do it.

  • We have our policy through Liberty Mutual.

State Farm does. At least as of Sept 2009 they did - that's when we turned our previous home into a rental and we got a quote from them.

AAA does not, as of 9/09 anyway. We used to have insurance from them at the time we became landlords, and they did not cover rental properties.

  • Thanks ladies!

Do you have both properties under the same company? Did you get a discount for having more than one policy?

  • We have all our policies (primary residence, rental property, cars, life, umbrella policy, etc.) with the same company, and yes, there is a multiple-policy discount.

  • We used to have AAA (in northern CA, as of last year, they did offer it).

We now have Liberty Mutual for all policies (rentals, current home, vehicles, life, umbrella, etc).

We were told at both companies that they do not offer discounts on rental policies. However, we do get discounts on our other policies under the "multi-policy."

The cost of insurance for the rental properties is deductible, so I wasn't too worried about getting the discount. In the end, 5% makes little difference.

  • I had a hard time finding a policy as well and just switched everything over to Liberty mutual last week for a lot of savings on all three policies.  Good luck!
