Cabinet Color choice - opinions pls.
I'm in the middle of painting our kitchen cabinets. I thought I wanted to go with a gray blue, but I decided to pick something a little more vibrant and saturated. I was going for an independently "pretty" color that I would enjoy looking at.
Well, of course I'm questioning the decision. I'm halfway through painting, so now is the time to make a change. What do you all think of this color for kitchen cabinets? I was going to compliment it with a silvery white shade on the walls & a big oak table (sort of a play on french provincial). If I don't change now, I suppose could try to tone it down w/a silvery glaze.
Honest opinions please - at $50/gallon and tremendous amounts of labor, I don't want to go through this again in the next year.

I think that's a gorgeous color, but I'd sooner do a backsplash with accent tiles in that color, or satisfy my urge to use that color in another room where I could roll it onto the walls and change it later if I wanted to. I did my kitchen cabinets a couple years ago, and it was a brutal 4 months. (I didn't work nonstop through it of course, but the kitchen was disheveled for 4 months.) I'd err on the side of playing it safe with something so labor intensive. Mine are a gray-green.

I really like the color but the other issue I'm having is I'm not sure if I like it in high gloss (which is sort of necessary for kitchen cabinets).
Susie - it's so funnyb you posted that pic b/c I loved that too! I was looking for something similar.
I wish I had a picture of MIL's kitchen. Her cabinets are a dark steel blue, her walls are gray, and her countertops are butcher block. It's a great look, though dark.
But color doesn't bother her - her cabinets were previously a pretty awful shade of forest green.

This is exactly what I was going to write. I would paint my cabinets some sort of white or off white and use the BM West Coast on my walls. It's just that it's so much easier to repaint walls vs repaint cabinets when you want a color change. I'd personally keep the cabinets neutral and save the color for the wall. But I do love that color so I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
No problem, hesitant bride. We got quotes from Shiner Roofing and Exterior Medics. Both have very good reviews on Angie's List. Both quotes were pretty much in line w/one another too. Exterior Medics might have been cheaper by a few hundred dollars (we chose them). Their masonry quote was a little high so we had an independent company fix our chimney.
We're getting 2 layers of roofing removed, some rotting plywood replaced, ridge vents and edge vents, attic insulation, attic baffling for ventilation, and new cladding/flashing around the house - $14,750.
I did satin on a bathroom vanity, and high gloss on my kitchen cabinets. They're about the same age (2 years since painting), and while the high gloss kitchen cabinets have held up flawlessly, the satin looks like it's chipping a little on my drawer fronts. Not bad, but I'm starting to notice it.
Could be the higher moisture in the bathroom, but I think it's more likely that it's the less durable nature of the satin finish. Which is a bummer, because I like the look of the satin much better. Since then I've done a bookcase in semi-gloss, which might be a good compromise - but I admit that in 3 months it already got its first chip
So even though I don't love the look of high gloss, I don't regret it for the kitchen one bit.
That's a great color. As much as I love to change colors, I don't think I would get tired of that color any sooner than I would tire of a certain shade of wood or white. It is a pretty versatile blue, and would look nice with many different wall/accessory/wood colors.
I love color though, and don't understand why it should only apply to walls. I am so tired of normal colored cabinets (wood or white), that I find myself drawn to kitchens with cabinets that are colors.

As some others have said, if you think you'll get tired of the color, maybe use it in something else that's more easily updated, like window coverings.
Personally, I love shades of blue so much that I can't ever imagine myself getting tired of cabinets that color. While it's not neutral, the options for accent colors are vast. It could go with many shades of green, yellow, cream/ivory, red, pink, grey, tan, etc. You could change out the accessories in the room and still get a very different look.

Yep, they're super hard and I clean them often. I think a lot of their durability may have to do with being the Advance line though. I'm pretty sure that line is made for cabinets. YHL and JennaSue used it on their cabinets as well.
I love that color, and I have blue cabinets in BM Caribbean Teal. I'm thrilled with the way my cabinets look. I had a decorator help me pick out the colors, and I was really wanting to do a dramatic wall color. He encouraged me that if I wanted a dramatic color, to do it on the cabinets and do a lighter color on the walls. I doubted him, but took the advice since it's what I was paying him for, and I absolutely love how it turned out. These are horrible pics, but the best I have right now. The walls are a light green. The backsplash is painted beadboard.
Also, THIS. I'm so tired of the standard wood or painted white cabinets and granite counter tops. I love that people walk into my kitchen to see something that really reflects my style and doesn't feel like a million other kitchens they have seen. It's been about a year since we painted the cabinets blue and I can't imagine that I'll get tired of it any time soon. I love it.
Thanks for all the advice, ladies. I'll definitely PIP soon. I need to see the cabinets again and see how I react. I also need to get the creamy beige off the walls b/c it's giving a major sand + ocean vibe.
