Where to vacation from Southern California
We're nearing the summer months and are puzzled about where to vacation this year. I live in Southern California, and we're interested in spending no more than around $2,000 this year, as our previous trips have been expensive (Alaska and Maui).
So far we've thought about taking a trip up the coast and to Lake Tahoe. Yosemite is out of the question as they're already booked!
Has anyone done a LA roundtrip Mexican cruise? Thoughts?
We're up for just about anything! What would you suggest? Perhaps I'm not thinking of something.

Re: Where to vacation from Southern California
How about Vancouver? I've never been there, but if I lived on the West Coast I would definitely go.
Or Yellowstone? We were there last fall and absolutely loved it.
Cabo San Lucas, it's the only place I would want to go on a Mexican cruise so why not stay there for a few more days.
Road trip up the coast hitting up Santa Barbara, Solvang, San Luis Obispo, Monterey, San Fran, etc..
Airfare and length of trip are likely the two most important factors.
Not sure if you'll fly out of LAX, Long Beach, Burbank, Ontario, or elsewhere, but look into cheap flights for relatively nearby destinations, and you'll be set.
We're probably thinking 5-7 days and would fly out of either Burbank (which I love, but tends to be a tad more expensive whenever I check) or LAX.
I was looking last night and we could fly up to Anchorage for $174 and take a Cruise down to Vancouver for $650. We loved our trip to Alaska last year, but don't know if we want to do something different.
We briefly stopped close by in Victoria last summer and I LOVED it. I could definitely see myself wanting to spend more time up there and have toyed with the idea.
Tarzan: Yes, the cruise I found does stop in Cabo (I think)!
DH and I did a 7-day Mexican Cruise last year for $700pp balcony. They stopped at Cabo and PV. With taxes and gratuity/misc., your $2K should work. Food is provided for, and you can bring a bottle of wine per person. You should definitely bring a couple of hundred more for discretionary incidentals, souvenir shopping, outside food/drinks, shore excursions, gambling.

DH and I took wine with us on our cruise last summer. It saved a ton of money! Did you know that on Princess you can actually take more than one bottle?!?
That's great! We did Carnival, so maybe that's the difference with ours. 4 bottles to consumer for a week is not too bad.
How was the food?
Would you consider the clientele to be more mature than the people that take the 3/4 day trips?
