Cover letters

It's been about 2 years since I've sent in a resume and cover letter. I'm starting my job search again because I'm not happy. Should I include a cover letter? Just not sure if anyone reads them anymore.

Re: Cover letters

  • Yes. What makes you think they don't read them anymore?

Most of the jobs I applied to recently stated "send your cover letter and resume to __________________"

  • Yes, include one.  It's always been my thought that even when it says cover letter optional, to not include one makes you look lazy and quick to send off resumes to whatever.  The cover letter should be thought out and customized to the job posting.

I agree with all of this.  Definitely do one.

  • Yes. Even if they don't, you've now CYA in case they still do.
