Re: Audette

  • It was bad.  We stuck with it for a whole ten days.

Neither of us had too much of an issue following it and avoiding the foods we were supposed to avoid.

DH lost a bit of weight, but no more than could be attributed to packing a lunch instead of buying crap at some fast food place.

I gained weight, grew exhausted, my workouts were suffering, each day I was getting progressively weaker, and then I started having menstrual issues.  All within ten days.  It was not cool, and had me worried for my health.

So, we both went off the diet.

I'm back to WW points eating, and am now tracking in my fitness pal, and I'm back to desperately trying to figure out WTH I can't lose weight - both WW and MFP say I should be losing weight.  And I can't.  My weight just doesn't drop.  I've gone to my PA on base, and they've run the gamut of tests, and all they can say is that by my bloodwork, I'm astonishingly healthy, and they have no idea why I can't lose weight.  Which isn't very helpful...  I'm not sure what else I can do...

  • Oh how awful!

Have you thought about trying to cut out certain things? I have a slight gluten intolerance so the best way for me to lose weight is to cut out grains. I'm not as bloated and I drop weight more easily. When I eat grains, I'm miserable.

You name it, I've pretty much tried it...  :(

I lost 70 lbs doing WW.  And then I had my gall bladder out, and we moved cross-country within a couple weeks, and I haven't been able to lose a pound since.  That was over a year ago.  I still watch/track what I eat, work out every day, etc, and can't seem to lose.  :(  I'm thinking of asking if I can see a registered dietician.  I _think_ I'm eating well, but maybe an expert can point out areas where I'm hurting my efforts...  Other than that, the only other thing I can think to ask for is an endocrinologist, because I _should_ be able to lose weight, and they seem to deal with all the hormones that control weight issues.  (my PA has tested what they can, but it's not their specialty, so maybe I'd do better with someone that specializes in it...)  I almost wonder if the gall bladder surgery has something to do with it, too - that was right around when I went from losing fairly steadily to not losing at all.

(yes, at this point you can comment that it might be a bit foolish to stick with WW, seeing as I'm not losing weight on it, but I'm at least not _gaining_)

  • Ew. So frustrating! Congrats on 70 lbs though! Man, that's nothing to shake a stick at! Do you go to a gym? Lots of gyms have RDs. Or maybe post on H&F? There are a couple dieticians over there and a whole lot of experience. I'm sure they'd help with your daily eating habits. Might be cheaper too. An endo may be a good idea. My thyroid levels were on the high end of normal, my PCM sent me to an endo to get a second opinion. He went ahead and started me on meds and after several months on them I evened myself out.

And I won't comment, I know several people who have lost on WW but still stay on it to maintain. I won't knock it if it works!

  • I would asked for a referal.  It could be a hormonal issue.  I have had terrible issues with my weight over the last 4 years.  I can not loose weight and have been gaining even with working out and eating better.  We've determined it is a side effect from my Mirena.  I love many things about it, but this, along with axiety issues that have surfaced since getting it, have us thinking I need to consider another form of BC.  Are you on any type of BC now?

  • To answer a couple questions - yep, I'm on hormonal BC (pills).  I've tried out a few different brands/types (including nuvaring) since hitting this stall, and swapping doesn't seem to help.

And, yes, I go to a gym.  Weekdays I go before work, and on weekends I tend to do an easier workout at home, unless (like last weekend) I go hiking, or do some other physical activity.  I used to go to a gym on base, but last week joined a gym near home, because the membership is less than I was spending on gas to get to the gym on base...  I'm not sure if they have any registered dieticians, but I've got an intro session with one of their trainers next week.  We'll see what I hear there.

I assumed I could get a referral to a dietician on base.  Hrm.  I might need to check into that.  And, yeah, I am wondering if an endocrinologist might be useful - I've been tested a half dozen times for thyroid levels, and the only one in the "normal" range was this last one here a few months ago.  I might have to get pushy to see an endo, though.  (stupid thing is, I've got the classic thyroid symptoms - fatigue, body temp issues, inability to lose weight, etc, and they've decided it must be depression, even though the darn therapist they sent me to can't figure out why they sent me to her...  Tired, yes, depressed, no...  grr!)

Blargh.  I'm just tired of dealing with this.  It's beginning to feel like they don't believe me when I tell my PA that I'm eating well and working out and still can't lose weight...

  • Thanks for the suggestions/comments, guys.  It's frustrating.

But, it's about time for me to head off for my knitting group.  Yay, yarn!  (I need to run an errand on the way there, too.)  I'll be online again later in case anyone else has posted more ideas. I'm all ears.  :)

  • I had all the symptoms which is why an endo decided to treat me even though I was in the normal range(high end). I'd definitely talk to the gym and your PCM for a referral. If they're less than helpful, see your patient advocate. Your concerns shouldn't go unheard. Good luck!

Good advice.  Time to make an appointment with my PCM...

  • And also consider the H&F board. Might be cheaper/easier than seeing an RD. They're a great group of ladies.

Appt with my PCM is made.  Yay!  It's in two weeks, because it's non-emergency, and I wanted to keep it outside of my working hours.

Hopefully it doesn't take forever and a day to get the referral thru tricare and to get an appointment with an endo...  We're at a larger base right now, and near a large metro area, so hopefully it won't be long.  (*crosses fingers*)

  • Hooray! If they give you the referral you should receive a letter within a week in the mail with instructions for how you need to contact. GL!
