Hi ladies,
I'm new to marriage, the military, and the nest! My
DH is newly commissioned into the Army. He's still in training, while
I'm busy earning a post-grad degree.
It looks like we might be
PCSing up to West Point at some point in the near future... does anyone
know anything about living in that area? Any words of wisdom about
military moving in general? Many thanks!
Re: New Girl - NY PCS
Hi and welcome!
Some of the ladies have a MN FAQ badge in their siggy, there's a ton of info about PCSing in there. I'm not too sure about West Point specifically, I have an ex who went there but he'll only know about the cadet side of things. I can ask him if you'd like.
We can leave the ex's out of it, but thanks for offering
At the risk of asking a silly question, what's MN?
Also... go Sox!Im Navy wife. haven't pcs yet.... will late october if everything goes well
Welcome! I'm A. My H is AD Navy and we just finished our 2nd PCS about 4 weeks ago.
MN = Military Nesties
Haha. We're still friends since I enlisted before he went to West Point. The offer stands.
The others answered the MN question so I'll ignore that. And Go Sox!
I grew up near West Point. Ask anything you like
The town right outside West Point is called Highland Falls and it's the cutest little town ever. There's a really good pizza place on Old Main Street.
TN ate my post again, damn it!!!
Anyway, it basically said Welcome and hi. The button in my siggy will lead you to the MN FAQ page. That should help to answer some of your questions.
I live across river from West Point but have been there many times. The Thayer Hotel on Base is AMAZING and has fabulous top ranked brunches.
I am not an overall fan of that side of the river, I live by Westchester County.
We were Navy but grew up in NY and live here now. If you need any help let me know, I know a few realtors too.
Any referrals for rental apt. brokers/leads would be great, esp. if they are military-friendly. I will be commuting either into NYC or NJ for my job, so we are looking a little south of West Point, closer to Croton/Ossining. DH is in training so we don't have much time to search ourselves.
Im a former frequent poster/current lurker and also grew up near West Point and live about 15 minutes from it now. Any questions I can try to answer.
If you go to the other side of the river where Croton/Ossining are, it tends to get more expensive, especially housing prices and taxes. If you stay on the same side of the river as West Point, you can easily get onto one of the main highways that brings you into NJ/NYC.
