For a few months, Levi has been telling me after the fact when he pees. This morning, he came over to me and said Poop. I asked if he pooped, he said no. I checked him and he hadn't. A second later, he was grunting and looked at me again and said Poop. I checked again and he had indeed pooped.
The other day, before bath, he was in his room naked. He said pee. I asked if he had to pee and he said no. Then started peeing. I stopped him and put him on his potty and he SCREAMED!
I was going to work on PT'ing this summer, but I think I'll start sooner since he is verbalizing when he needs to go. Is there any advice you can give to make it easier on him and I??
Re: Mom's who've PT'd...
Levi got his potty last year for Easter. I thought I'd try to work with him over the summer since I was laid off, but then we remodeled our house and it wasn't the best time for either of us to do it.
I do think he's getting ready now though.

Obviously I have not done this yet, but I think from what I've heard that kids will eventually get the hang of it...it's not something to really push since at that age they test so many boundaries and basically like to do the exact opposite of what you tell/want them to do.
We are right in the middle of it. P showed interest off and on for about a year and a half. I was going to try the 3 day method at Christmas break, but I got the flu and lost my 3 day window so I just figured I'd try again in the summer.
Well, he moved up a room at daycare, and all the girls ( and none of the boys - everyone tells me most girls do it earlier) were training and in underwear, and it was game on. He was obsessed. Within two or three weeks of wearing pullups and being able to use the potty he asked his teacher if he could wear underwear, so we sent him in with extra pants and a collection of underwear (thomas, cars, sports, batman - all his favorite things). We're on week 3 of underwear, and he's been accident free all week.
At home was a different story, he doesn't have the peer pressure and we don't have the toddler-sized real toilet. He hates the little potty, but kind of scared of the big one. I also did some research online, and bought a different toddler seat. We had one of the squishy ones, but I read that a lot of kids don't like it. So I read some reviews for the baby bjorn one that is white molded plastic, and he started using it within a few days.
Long story short, what is working for us is this:
1. peer pressure at daycare
2. underwear he's excited to wear
3. when he's in underwear, putting on the potty every 20 min or so even if he says he doesn't have to go. That morphed into us asking him if he needed to go, and finally into him telling us.
4. letting him do it at his own pace
The last one works for us because that is his personality. I got nervous when I read that the older they get, the harder it gets, but for us that was absolutely not true. I'm glad we waited until he could really understand what is going on. It sounds like you guys are getting there if he's vocalizing what is happening.

It's interesting; a lot of people I know online from different places in the country seem to train their kids earlier. Around here, most of my friends with boys didn't get the kids trained until they were at least 3. Our daycare doesn't even start with it until the kids are in the 30-36 month room (unless of course the kids are already doing it, and that's actually rare, but the teachers don't stress it). Who knew this was a regional thing!

I had a lot of pressure from outside to have her trained. I didn't see it as much of an issue but people would look at me crazy with an "older" kid that wasn't potty trained. It kind of sucked for me being chastised by the older generation (especially) but oh well. She figured it out.
I remember first trying to potty trainer her before she was 2. That was comical. She'd sit on the toilet and read her books upside down or point at her boo boos and talk about them. She definitely wasn't getting it.

Yeah, my dad made a comment once that both my brother and I were trained by the time we were two, and that it wasn't that bad and life was so much easier after diapers. I told my mom, and she just about flipped out. Because she can count on one hand how many diapers my dad has changed in his life, and he had absolutely nothing to do with training us! Ha ha.

just praise him like Crazy when he does go on the potty, I find with Lucy that really helps her. She is pretty much daytime trained now, she only wears a diaper at night/nap and when we go out for a long errand or something and even then she'll tell us when she has to go when we are out.
When he tells you poop then take him to the potty and tell him that poo poo goes in the potty etc.
