I have been running at the gym but DD is sick so we are not able to go. I was thinking of doing some runs in the evening when DH is home. Maybe around 7:00 when things are settled down in the house.
I am just wondering how I should work eating? We have dinner at 5:30. Should I eat then? Eat later? I don't want to feel full on my run but, I don't want to eat at 8:00 at night either. Any suggestions?

There is no way that I could eat dinner at 8:00 (I am in bed by 10:00!). I like to get that mess done and out of the way as early as possible, so on the evenings that I work out I have a very light portion of whatever is for dinner, and make sure that my lunch is a little heartier. My food has a little chance to settle while I finnish the dishes. I also make sure to plan a quick meal like tacos or chicken sandwiches on those nights.
I do my workout, then shower and maybe have a snack, like a yogurt or some string cheese, afterwards. My internal clock just wouldn't work with dinner at 8 on a week night! :-)
I actually enjoy evening workouts, it feels good to be done, shower and know that my day is complete.
I usually eat between 5:30 and 6 and then go running at 7:30. It works great for me. But for me I need to eat an hour or so before I work out.
We like to eat dinner as a family and DS goes to bed at 7ish so eating later isn't an option for us.

I think it really depends on your stomach.
I do most of my runs in the evening and I just eat my regular dinner beforehand. If I ate at 5:30 and went out at 7, that would be plenty of time for me to digest and be fine. Some people can't do that though. If you can't, then I would probably have a light snack beforehand and eat your normal dinner after. 8pm isn't too late to eat.
I head out for my run between 630 - 7, depending on how far I'm planning on going.
I get home from work between 430-530. I usually eat a snack as soon as I get home.
Eat dinner around 830.. It's not ideal, but I gotta do what I gotta do.
I'm an evening runner (except during the hottest part of summer) and late dinner eater too. Average dinner time for me is probably around 9 PM. I usually have a late afternoon snack of some sort before my run.
If you want to stick to making/serving dinner early, just try eating a lighter portion and seeing how your stomach does with running on that. Everyone is different and you won't know until you try. I usually have no problem eating a light meal and then running an hour or so later...sometimes it's not my best quality running, but it's good enough!

We always run/workout in the evenings, and we just eat dinner at our normal time of 5:30 or 6:00 PM. We take an hour for us to digest, and then we complete our workout! It works great for us.
This. I usually don't eat dinner until 8 or 8:30pm, after my evening workout. I usually have a light snack around 4PM and it helps keep me satisfied until dinner. Maybe you could try a late snack for your family? Or make dinner at the usual time for the fam and then eat yours a bit later in the evening? Or eat a little earlier than usual, give yourself an hour or so to digest, and then head out. I personally find it hard to workout *after* dinner (this is why I eat late) but when MH lived alone, he'd eat dinner earlier and then work out around 9PM.
