Training Tuesday

Happy Tuesday!

What event are you training for/date?

What does your training schedule look like for the week?

Any injuries or problems?

Highlights from last week?

I am a hungry one this week, so let's talk food. What are some quick and easy dinners?

What are some dishes that are always in your rotation?

Do you have to follow a recipe, or do you come up with your own creations?

On an unrelated note, I start a new job next week (eek, excited!!) and probably won't be able to post during the day. I still haven't figured out how to get my smartphone to cooperate with The Nest. Anyone want to take over Training Tuesday?

Re: Training Tuesday

  • What event are you training for/date? Gansett Marathon. On Saturday. How did that happen?

What does your training schedule look like for the week? Cross-train, run 3-4 miles, rest, run 5 miles, run 3 miles, rest, and Gansett.

Any injuries or problems? My lower back really really hurt for a few days, but oddly not when I ran. It's mostly better now. Ankle was being a PITA, but that's better too.

Highlights from last week? Super pleasant long run in Rock Creek Park.

I am a hungry one this week, so let's talk food. What are some quick and easy dinners? Salsa chicken in the crockpot, make extra food on the weekends and have leftovers during the week, baked fish topped with a nut-herb-breadcrumb mixture or salsa

What are some dishes that are always in your rotation? Soups (chicken stock, chicken, random assortment of whatever is on hand), frozen vegetable medleys, grilled chicken (on a salad, added to something else, or as the main part of dinner), black bean corn and mango salad in the summertime, mac n cheese from scratch.

Do you have to follow a recipe, or do you come up with your own creations? Used to stick to recipes, but I have enough basic methods down that I can usually create something tasty without a recipe.

  • What event are you training for/date? I'm slowly working my way through Couch to 5K to come back after Physical Therapy.  Only race is an annual 5.2 mile run in Cape Cod in August.

What does your training schedule look like for the week? Couch to 5K Week 4 on Tues, Thurs, Sat

Any injuries or problems? My knee is a little sore right now.  It's feeling better than last week, so I guess I just need to remember slow and steady.

Highlights from last week? Started week 4 of Couch to 5K.  I'm spending two weeks on each interval set instead of 1, so this means I'm 7 weeks back in to running.

I am a hungry one this week, so let's talk food. What are some quick and easy dinners? I like to make refired beans and spanish rice.  But 2 tbsp of each in a soft taco shell, roll them up and bake them for 20 minutes at 375.  It's taquitos!

What are some dishes that are always in your rotation? I try to mix it up, but there's always a Crock Pot meal, a pasta and usually a Mexican theme.

Do you have to follow a recipe, or do you come up with your own creations?
I usually follow the recipe for something the first time, and them modify it the second time.  Sometimes I just make things, like a particular waldorf salad wrap DH loves, or those taquitos I mentioned.
  • What event are you training for/date? Gansett Marathon as well! (See you there!)

What does your training schedule look like for the week?

    M - Off

    Tu - 5 easy

    W - 5 easy

    Th - 3 easy

    F - Off

    Sa - 26.2 race

    Su - Off

Any injuries or problems? You mean other than feeling totally not prepared for this race on Saturday? Haha.

Highlights from last week? Had a good track work out with a new track group!

I am a hungry one this week, so let's talk food. What are some quick and easy dinners? Crab cakes! Crab meat (canned works fine), light mayo, crushed garlic, minced scallions, lemon juice, bread crumbs and S+P. Form in to patties and bake or pan fry. Dip in sweet chili sauce with salad or veggies on the side. :)

What are some dishes that are always in your rotation? Frozen pizza (with added toppings and side salad), salmon, shrimp with pasta and spicy tomato sauce...

Do you have to follow a recipe, or do you come up with your own creations? Usually find a recipe and then tweak it a little

I am a hungry one this week, so let's talk food. What are some quick and easy dinners? Cereal. Embarrassed I also like soup and grilled cheese sandwiches or "breakfast for dinner"--an egg omlet with cheese and whatever random fresh veggies are in the fridge.

What are some dishes that are always in your rotation? veggie burgers, mac n cheese, cous cous, I hate cooking and will admit that I use a lot of boxed items.

Any injuries or problems? Doing pretty good, the new training schedule has given me my running mojo back!

Highlights from last week? Did my first week of NROLW and tried out running to the gym to lift, was able to run up the big hill after lifting!

I am a hungry one this week, so let's talk food. What are some quick and easy dinners? Quesadillas, Pasta, we try to eat mostly vegetarian

What are some dishes that are always in your rotation? Veggie burgers, Quinoa and root pilaf, Lemon pepper Gnocchi

Do you have to follow a recipe, or do you come up with your own creations? DH does most of the cooking. He can come up with his own stuff, but I stick mostly to recipes when he cooks.

On an unrelated note, I start a new job next week (eek, excited!!) and probably won't be able to post during the day. I still haven't figured out how to get my smartphone to cooperate with The Nest. Anyone want to take over Training Tuesday? I could take over if no one else wants to do it.

Any injuries or problems?  *knocks wood* Nope!

Highlights from last week?  My first spin class was awesome.

I am a hungry one this week, so let's talk food. What are some quick and easy dinners?  Crockpot whole chicken.  Let it cook all day, then fix some rice and veggies for an easy dinner.
