So, I have shingles.
Grrrr. I tell the doctor (who isn't my normal doc) that it itches. She's like "itches? Usually it's more of a burning sensation, or feels like pins and needles".
Um, yeah, and in turn- they make you want to SCRATCH.
But seriously.... shingles is really annoying.

I am very sorry. I had shingles an I was in so much pain. The ichyness was horrible.
Calamine lotion helped a lot!
Is the rash your only symptom? I had shingles a couple of months before my wedding and I couldn't get out of bed for a week. I was just so exhausted - I didn't even have the energy to eat. Finally I gave in and took one of the vicodin they gave me for the pain - apparently vicodin has a reverse effect on me, because I basically had OCD. Got out of bed, cleaned my entire house, and was vacuuming at 3 in the morning when H had to drag me back to bed.
I hope you feel better soon, shingles sucks.
A lot of the symptoms I didn't have - I didn't feel like I had the flu, etc. But now, it's just constant discomfort.
May have to try calamine lotion for the itchy part.

An oatmeal bath might help too, if you can sneak one in - I like Aveeno's, it's inexpensive and you can get it anywhere.
Glad you don't feel flu-y but I know exactly what you mean by the itchy pins and needles pain. Such a weird sensation to describe!

Along with the oatmeal bath, Aveeno also makes an oatmeal and lavender lotion that really helped soothe BabyDubs through his recent bout with chickenpox.

I had Shingles @ the begining of December. It hurt like a SOB. Take your Vicodin, don't try to be a hero.
I was able to go back to work after a week, but Damn, I was still in a lot of pain.
I'm going to pick up some of the Aveeno stuff today on my way home.

But the itching... it's getting worse, actually. And I feel like it's all spreading. Or I'm spreading it w/ my itching.
And we're hosting a party Friday night. Awesome. "Welcome to my house and my nasty, red splotchy neck and jaw!!!". I may need to wear a scarf that night. Not joking.

Hi, FYI, you might want to stay away from others while you have shingles. It can be contagious (it's the chicken pox virus). Folks with suppressed immune systems and children could catch chicken pox from you.
I got chicken pox from my mom when she had shingles.
(and I already had chicken pox as a child.)
