The orthopedist wants me to wait another week. But, I hate him. My knee feels fine. The weather is gorgeous and I don't want to be stuck in the gym on the elliptical for another day.
(Also, a year ago, I never would have had a post titled this. It's mostly the fault of lots of the ladies here.)

I am sorry to hear this. I have been wondering why you were MIA.
meh. I'd probably go running.
did you get the wack 'two weeks. no running.' perscription? if so, I'd go AMA on that one.
in my experience 'two weeks, no running', is the equivalent of 'I don't have a clue WTF is wrong with you but I bet it will be better in two weeks!'
I agree that you need to rest when you are injured to recover, but the goal following injury is ZERO pain. so if you can run with ZERO pain, I say run.

I gave up the Nest for Lent. I'm back now, but I have to admit H&F is a frustrating place to be just because I have no idea what's wrong. I finally got referred to an orthopedist, who I saw last week, but we won't know much until I go back for my follow up on 5/2 and look at the MRI.
I'm still cycling and swimming, but since I can't really register for tri's, I don't feel very motivated to "train." It's been a bummer.
I somewhat agree with this, but I also think that feeling zero pain while you walk around in your daily life and do low-impact exercise doesn't mean you'll feel zero pain while running - or after running, when you start to stiffen again. This is why I think it's practical (although frustrating) to aim for zero pain, then wait a week or so before starting up high-impact exercise again.

Keep us updated! I hope the MRI shows nothing.
Have you done active release therapy? I sound like a broken record because I keep telling people to do it, but it is the best thing for injuries (assuming no stress fractures).
It's always the worst though when you dont know what is wrong! That is why knees are so frustrating...everything connects there so it can be so many stupid things. It is your knee too, right?
to be clear, I mean zero pain while running. which means that if there is pain, you stop. IMO the 'two weeks rest' is a catch all non-dx/treatment, unless there is some radiographic evidence of injury. that I translate to mean, because it has been translated to me by more than one MD as such, rest until there is no pain with activity.
basically, I don't think there's anything magical about 2 weeks as opposed to 10 days or 12 days or 7 days.
and I would totes go running tonight.
There's no one very near me who does it, so I'd need to travel a little ways. For now I'm holding on pursuing it further because a stress fracture is one of the things that's on the possibilities list. The MRI will hopefully either diagnose it positively or rule it out. At this point I'd settle for anything concrete, even if it's not what I want to hear. My orthopedist is a Kona finisher and a marathon runner, so I like that he "gets" it, at least.
My knee has been pretty much ok, it's the medial anterior side of my ankle, running up my shin for about 5". The tendonitis that I initially had has cleared up, but this pain just won't.
Water jogging?
I'm sorry, I know that feeling and it sucks.
BLT, was this a serious suggestion?
Also, I love love LOVE your siggy pic. It makes me happy every time I see it.

Semi-serious? Haha. When my knee got jacked I was told to start swimming, but I'm awful at it. So I'd literally run laps back and forth in the pool. I'm still bad at swimming.
Thanks.
He looks like my kitty and it cracks me up.
