Semi H&FR: Recommend a restaurant in OH

specifically, Toledo. Please :)

A giant crowd of my running group will be there for the Glass City Marathon in a few weeks and we're trying to get a group dinner set up Saturday night. Must be good for crowds, good for kids, and take reservations.

Thanks!

Re: Semi H&FR: Recommend a restaurant in OH

  • I know my running group is going to Bravo...I may or may not be, I'm working on making dinner plans with friends.  I'll ask my friend who lives there for other ideas though!

  • I don't live too far away, and we go down there for dinner often!

I recommend Shorty's, it's a bbq place with excellent food and a great atmosphere. It does get crowded, and I'm not 100% sure they take reservations, but it's worth a call.

If you want other ideas, I have a close friend that lives there, and I will ask for a few more recommendations.

  • I've eaten with a group at Plaza Azteca (I think that's the name).  It's been a few years, but they had decent mexican food.  Not astounding, but decent, and the service was really fast, even with a large group.  It's a chain, but a small one, I think.

Lurker jumping in! There are two Plaza Aztecas.  The one on Monroe St. is AWESOME.  It's relatively new.

We love Shorty's.  Sakura is really fun too.  Some other favorites: Ferdos (awesome Mediterranean food!), and if you're in the mood for some hot dogs (not H&F friendly at all), Rudy's is delicious!

Nicolle's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

  • Oh good, Shorty's popped up on my Yelp review already. I think I'll suggest that and the Mexican place; this group isn't likely to agree to Japanese or Mediterranean. :) Thanks!
  • I didn't realize you were running glass city - are you doing the half or full?

That was my plan this year, but it's the day of my sister's bridal shower, so I'm doing the trail half the following weekend.

Not sure where everyone is staying, but Shorty's is good, as is Plaza Azteca.  There is also Tony Packo's down town, a bazillion other little Mexican places.  We like El Vaquero in Perrysburg, but there is also one on Secore, not too far from the UT campus.

Bravo at the Westfield Mall is pretty good.  There are also chains - like Olive Garden and Red Robin, especially if you're looking for kid-friendly.

  • I am doing the half; dropped from the full when I didn't get my miles up in time. :)
  • I really like the half course - the last few miles can get a little boring - with minimal crowd support along the bike path, but it's not too bad.  I loved the beginning of the course and the loop through Wildwood park.

I have heard that the full course is not too exciting - pretty boring with some longer stretches surrounded by fields.

I am sure you'll enjoy the half!

  • I grew up in the Toledo area and one of my favorites if we eat down that way is Rosie's. http://www.rosiesitaliangrille.com/ Definately will need a reservation as they will be busy on a weekend night. The hot mama bread and their stromboli are amazing.

Rudy's and Tony Pacos are known for their hot dogs. The docks used to be pretty popular as well but its been years since I've eaten there. http://www.toledo.com/attractions/the-docks-downtown-toledo-ohio/

Also, you have most chains in that area if that is something you are interested in.

  • No one mentioned Tony Packo's - it's one of my favs (got my BA at UT) - love their chili dogs and chili - yum:) It's also a good place for large groups. There are a couple locations in Toledo.
