DC hotel w/ a suite rec? (traveling with toddler)

I am looking for DC hotel reccomendations, for a suite. We will be traveling with DD, so it is nice to have a seperate space for her to sleep in so we can talk after 8 pm Stick out tongue

The Capital Hilton had them for $206, and now they are $251 (prie hanged in an hour!) so now I am annoyed. Any other ideas for under $250, or should I just bite the bullet and book the $251??

Looking to be close to attractions/mall/White House area

TIA!

  • i don't know how much it is but I would look at Embassy Suites, there is one on 22nd Street, one in Chevy Chase.

  • Ok, thanks! I didn't even think of Embassy Suites, this is really the first time we have needed a suite....

I also found a Hyatt that has good rates on a suite. What is the difference in location between by Dupont circle, convention center, or Capitol hill? Are they equally as safe/nice?

  • i would look into the kimpton hotels (there are a bunch here) and residence inn. my SIL & her boyfriend stayed at the residence inn on 14th st/vermont ave (near mcpherson square metro) and really liked it. and i think the rate included parking.

all the neighborhoods you mentioned are safe but i'd probably go with dupont circle (but that is a personal preference).

    HTH!

  • I don't know of any suites, but have you checked out VRBO.com?
  • I personally love to stay in DuPont Circle, it's close to a lot of things, everything is a short cabride or metro ride away.  The area has nice restaurants and very safe.
  • Thanks everyone! Lots of great suggestions! After we book the hotel, I will be looking for restaurant recs ;)

  • Which Hyatt is in Dupont? The only Hyatts I know of are on H Street, Capitol Hill, and the Park Hyatt which is closer to Georgetown on 24th st. The Park Hyatt is the nicest, then probably the Grand Hyatt on H Street then the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill.

  • Oh I was just comparing general locations, not Hyatts in those locations.

Where do you suggest going to eat that is toddler friendly, but unique/fun/different? We like all types of foods, and trying new things.

Also, anything that is a must see or do specifically with a 2 yr old?

    TIA

  • the DC nesties put together a great list of family activities in the area

    i love the national zoo

i would highly recommend dinner or lunch at one of jose andres' restaurants. zaytinya (mediterranean) and oyamel (mexican) are my favorites. other favorites of mine: cava (greek), ted's bulletin (american/eclectic), brasserie beck (belgian), mai thai, and we had a really good meal at boqueria (tapas) on saturday night.

tacklebox, byblos, and nando's are more low key than the restaurants i mentioned but you can definitely bring your daughter to any of these places.

    HTH

  • We stayed at the Hyatt right by the capitol (I assume capitol hill) and it was a GREAT location!  We walked to many things but also there was a bus stop across the street for the double decker red bus.  You can buy passes that are for 24 hours or longer and it stops EVERYWHERE.  You just get off whereever you want, see the attraction, and when you are done hop on the next bus.  They run in a giant circle all day and I HIGHLY recommend it!

EDIT:  It was also walking distance from the train station.  We flew into Baltimore, took the train, and were able to walk to the hotel!  So convenient!

  • Thank you both so much!!! Awesome tips!
