Talk to me about Trail Running
Do you love it? If so, why?
I'm looking for another half in between now and the Marine Corps Marathon and there is a trail half marathon in my area that fits with my training schedule. It's a small race with only 240 entrants. Looks fun.
I've done one before, but it was a 5K and I was not prepared for it. I somehow signed up for it and missed that it was a trail run. Also, we had DS with us in a jogging stroller....bad, bad idea!

Re: Talk to me about Trail Running
I have done a 5k & a 10k trail race. I loved them. I was on a single track trail for my 10k, so no way would a stoller have fit out there. My best advice is to look up the trail and test it out first. I did not do that for the 5k and was very surprised when I went down such steep declines I was almost sliding on my butt. Tetsing it out lets you know what you are getting in to. I apparently signed up for more of an adventure race than trail race for my first, but it was a lot of fun.
I think trail running is a different kind of hurt too. My thighs and ankles felt the trails from stabilizing my body much more than I ever notice on the street. I just wore my usual NB running shoes and had no issues.
I love trail running!! I love the challenging terrain, the slower pace, the endurance required, etc... I've done an ultra trail race (50K), various trail half marathons, 5 mile trail races, etc... I also would run a lot of my long runs on trails while marathon training. One of my favorite trails to run on is listed as one of the top 25 trails in the US by Runner's World.

how much of a trail run is it?
I did a "trail run" half marathon a few weeks ago and it wasn't much of a trail. It was a crushed granite pretty popular running route. It was still different than doing a road race though.
I'm doing a much more challenging 25K trail run this weekend and I'm scared to death.
