I have an interview next Monday and I am looking for some advice. I work in video production and I have been job searching for the last 2.5 years. I am unhappily employed in a job where I don't use my skills. Because of this I do a ton of freelance work outside of my full time job to keep me hirable.
Anyway, a week or two ago I sent my resume to an ad agency I found online that is located only a few miles from my current job. They didn't have any openings but I figured sending it along with a cover letter wouldn't hurt. I heard back yesterday and they would like to interview me.
I need some tips on interviewing for a job when you're not quite sure what it is that you are interviewing for. I have experience in all aspects of video production so it could be anything, though my strengths are in editing. I have a lot of questions for them already since their site was a little sparse when it came to information about the company.
Thanks a bunch!

In the future, it is good to ask what they are looking for when they call you. At this point, I would just go to the interview and let them tell you what they are looking for. I wouldn't call back and ask b/c you accepted the interview without knowing. They will most likely ask you the basic interview questions (tell us about you, your experience, your goals, etc). Just be prepared and do your best
I agree with pp. I wouldn't call back. Show up to your interview, act professional and like they are interviewing you for the position you want. If it isn't what you want, you can always turn the job down.
The interview was offered in an email and I was so excited that something came from my random email that I didn't even think to ask. It's a very small production company (only three people are listed on the site) so I'd imagine it would be some sort of all encompassing role.
Thanks for the tips.

Since you weren't applying to a specific position, I'd say there is a good chance they really don't know exactly what they are looking for and this may be a chance to develop a position. I would be thinking of what your dream position would be, and be ready to sell that as your strengths. (while also being flexible to their needs, of course.) Since it is small company, they may be ready to grow, but not sure exactly what direction.
and, good for you for taking initiative and taking an active role in your career instead of sitting back and waiting for something to come along! Even if this doesn't work out, keep that up, it will pay off. Good luck, let us know what happens!
