Thought the Moms on the Board Would be interested in this
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

Thx!
I've been wondering if DS is missing something key in his diet - lately he's been having these scaley-scabby things on his scalp, and if I comb his hair at bath time they come loose, but often with a few strands of hair.
I'm going to call his ped doc today to see if there's something I need to be really worried about, but he gets plenty of the foods described in the Vit-A description, and pretty much everywhere else.
DP- I don't know how old your DS is but it could be cradle cap. My 3 year old still gets it. Per my pedi I use a teeny, like less than a pea sized, drop of Head & Shoulders to wash his hair when it flares us. Usually 2 washes (and we wash his hair every 3rd night or so) and it's gone.
Also, when my grandmother had breast cancer, I read a lot about vit deficiencies. The main reason we see so much VitD deficiency is b/c we are afraid of the sun. A study done a few years ago said that 15 minutes in the sun with no sunscreen gets you literally 100s of times more D than supplements and that the risk of certain cancers from not getting D is much greater than the possibility of skin cancer from the exposure in the majority of people.
@Major @rayskit,
Thanks - that alleviates my fears a bit. I think I'll buy a little H&S shampoo, and have the kid up his water intake (he suffers from dry skin anyway, and allergies, poor guy).
And I've taken to letting the kids out for 10-15 minutes before applying the sunscreen. I'm a sunblock Nazi typically, but I also see the benefits of getting that natural Vit-C.
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of American kids are getting sub-optimal amounts of these nutrients. The most nutrient-dense foods are not advertised as being very "kid friendly" and sometimes even maligned - meat, liver, fish, egg yolks, full fat dairy, etc. A few generations ago people were still eating liver and taking cod liver oil but now it's just the lunatic fringe doing that I guess.
I regret not being consistent with vit D supplementation for DD, especially when she was younger. It's difficult to get enough from food sources and winter in the northeast doesn't allow for much sunlight exposure.
