My 10 year old DD is playing in a piano recital in a few weeks and the kids are suppose to dress us to go with the song they are playing. DD is playing a song from The Lion King. I'm completly stumped on what to do for a costume. She does have this dress that I would work ok, but DD isn't going for it. Any suggestions?

Re: Need costume help
Can she wear the dress and add ears and a tail?
If I'm thinking like a 10 y/o, she probably wants like a legit costume and not just a dress.
I'd offer to paint whiskers on her, get her a tail and ears and wear the dress.
FWIW, that sounds like an odd piano recital, lol (I played piano from age 7-18, so had a fair share of recitals).
Which song?
Agree with SS that they mean a costume, not a dress that loosely fits in with Lions because it somewhat safari-ish.
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
Can You Feel the Love Tonight
Good lord that's a hard one...
Can you dress her up like Elton John with hearts everywhere?
Heart shaped sparkly glasses, etc.?
I'm stumped!

I would say brown unitard (from a dance store) or sweatsuit and then add a tail and a mane. (You can probably make the end of the tail and the mane from yarn). With some grease paint, that would be about right and not too spendy. Or if she wants to be Nala, you can skip the mane and just do a tail and ears, plus the grease paint.
I would first clarify with the instructor whether he/she means a full-out costume or just an outfit based on a theme.
My H teaches piano and has several recitals each year. In general the kids are just asked to dress for a performance, but he also has a Halloween recital where the kids get to dress up in their costumes. FWIW, its adorable and I LOVE seeing all of them in their costumes. Outside of Halloween though, its a bit much to ask.
I personally love the dress you have and the idea of adding some accessories (ears, tail, etc) is perfect! Have you asked your D what she wants to wear or what she thinks would serve as an appropriate outfit for this recital? The song itself could be open to interpretation (not just Lion King), so maybe she has other ideas?
