Maybe GOP candidates should stick to Ted Nugent songs

Yes, I'm aiming for a Helper-esque pot-stirring title here.

The AP reports

Musician John Mellencamp wants Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to know that he supports collective bargaining and union rights and Walker should know that before using his song "Small Town" on the campaign trail.

Mellencamp's publicist Bob Merlis told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Mellencamp wanted him to reach out to Walker not to ask him to stop using the song, but to inform him of his liberal beliefs.

Merlis says that is a standing policy of Mellencamp's whenever a politician uses one of his songs. Merlis says he became aware Walker was using "Small Town" after reading a news story about a campaign stop Tuesday in Milwaukee.

Walker's campaign spokesman did not immediately return a message.

I can't help but laugh when politicians use music from artists who are open and vocal for their support of the opposition party.

It's even better when the song they play doesn't correspond with the vaules they espouse. People should listen to the lyrics and not just the chorus.

  • I loved when Romney was playing K'Naan at one of his events. So much cognitive dissonance.
"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • Reagan and the Born in the USA fiasco is pretty hilarious when you listen to the words.. Bruce Springsteen also told Fawn Hall at one of his shows (when she somehow got herself backstage) " I don't like you or your boss" (who was Oliver North for those not born during the Johnson administration as I was).

  • I thought everyone knew Mellencamp is a hard core liberal. I think even Olbermann is right of the guy.
