You know what scares me?

How many friends I have that believe they can't have kids because they have "weird" cycles or heavy periods or some doctor told them as a teenager that they can't. I think for Christmas everyone is getting a copy of TCOYF. ::headdesk::

Re: You know what scares me?

  • I can't believe I've made it 31 years without accidentally getting pregnant!   I mean, I had SEVERAL close calls in college, when I didn't want to have kids.  Now that we're thinking of TTC part of me worries that we won't be able to.  Wouldn't THAT be ironic?

But yeah, the rational side of me knows that I'm still (relatively) young and healthy, and I have no reason to think (at this point) that we should have any trouble.   I know LOTS of people who "knew" for whatever reason that they couldn't have kids (because some doctor told them) and had no trouble conceiving.

  • I totally agree. I'm like Avion and have always sort of worried that once we are TTC I won't be able to. I mean I have had health issues that leads me to it might be a problem but I know I can't try with that mind set.

Oh and can you tell my husband that we don't need a new truck before we can have a baby. The man is nuts. All he keeps talking about lately is " We can have a baby after I get a new truck". I keep telling him well we have no idea how long it will take to get pregnant and you won't need to drive the baby around while its growing in my stomach. Stick out tongue

  • I know soooo many people like this as well. A friend of mine who I've known forever (she used to be my best friend, but we've drifted) has always known that she didn't want kids. She's with a guy right now that wants them and their relationship is pretty serious. She's told me that she is just hoping that she can go to a doctor and they will tell her that it's impossible (she's also almost 29 and has never been to a GYN or had a PAP smear, but that's another story).

She's told me that if it's determined she's fertile she wants to have some form of permanent or semi-permanent birth control done (either something implanted or have her tubes tied) and will then tell the guy she's with that she just can't have kids (yeah, she's more of a former friend at this point).

  • I know too many women who were told in high school that they couldn't get pregnant, so they went on having unprotected sex. SURPRISE!

I have a friend who got diagnosed with PCOS her sophomore year and the doctor told her she will never been able to have a child. She cried for weeks until she found out she was pregnant. Ironic. The doctor who told her she would never have kids delivered her baby. She gave that baby up for adoption and went on to have ANOTHER kid her senior year and that child was adopted by the same family who adopted the first one.

The lack of real sex education in my old high school kills me. I thought my cervix was a tumor. No joke.

  • The lack of sex education in America scares me.

Just watch an episode of 16 and pregnant. It goes like this 99% of the time...

pregnant girl's friend - "Were you guys not using protection?"

pregnant girl - "Well...we did  a few times, but then we did it once without a condom and I didn't get pregnant so I figured it was fine"

He is bound and determined to get a crew cab so he can drive the baby around. I think its funny. I don't think he needs a new truck but this is his excuses for one.

  • Given something like 25% of Americans will be diagnosed with infertility, and many of those diagnoses are for inconclusive reasons, I can understand why people worry so much.

I understand the worry. I don't understand why they don't educate themselves when their "heavy periods" could really be nothing and everyone is different.
