I don't know if you got through the rest of the thread, but here are some links I found specifically for FL. I also noticed Beans said she posted links last time this came up. I hope you still have them and make progress today to get yourself enrolled into these courses. I would again call the A&FRC, call the local community college, or even the nearest High School.
Here is a link to the FL Dept of Education with a section for adults.

Re: Ilovemyairman
I found the link from the post I gave you some resources in. So those, on top of what Katniss is giving you should give you a good starting point.
There are plenty of people out there who can and will help you, you just need to be proactive about it.

ETA: did you go to the meeting at the AFR? were they helpful?

Department of Education

Whatever you decide to do make sure with the department of education that it is an accredited program.
My MIL works for the office of education back home and I'm going to email her and ask her about your concern over dis-enroling even though your parents dis-enroled you when you were in 6th grade and see what she can tell me.
Go to the local office of education, they should be fairly easy to find and see if someone there can help guide you through this.
Also I read your other post from yesterday. You really need to focus on getting a HS diploma rather than your GED if possible. You have so little education I think doing this is so important. Especially since you said your parents had little education. Don't you want more for your kids, a parent that has a HS degree and wants to do something more with her life?
We are all here to help you. Take up Tx on her offer to find out some more stuff about the programs in LA and such.
I think you've been given a LOT of great resources here and it's clear that the board is here for any support that can be offered.
I really hope you now take the information and start the DOING portion. No "I'm going to call/find out/etc". Nothing you can be doing right this moment should be more important than picking up the phone or getting on a bus and getting this ball rolling. You can do it! Good Luck.
YES!
You know we support you. Go out there and take the world, girly!
And FWIW, a GED and HS Diploma have the same value. Don't think you are a lesser person because you have a GED. You really can do this. Don't think you can't for a second!
For someone who wants to go into some type of medical field, science is essential. I don't want to discourage a GED if that's the only option, but I think in this case, a real high school experience is a much better option.
And, yes, we support you. I spent a lot of time on google, obviously other people did given their links. I even talked with H about it to see what else could be done to help you. But our help can only go so far. You have to make those calls!
Really? I had no idea that they didn't offer the same things. How frustrating.
You should probably ignore this...
Didn't Amber (or maybe it was one of the others) fail biology on 16 & pregnant/Teen Mom? I was thinking she/they/whoever did and so then you did take science? If not, I'm sad that you don't... I loved science! Not history though... I hated all history that wasn't Texas history.
Also, did you call a mycaa counselor to get funding and advice? They may even be able to provide books.
The mycaa program is the link I gave you yesterday. It's a program through military one source to help people like you get your education. They provide tuition assistance (GED classes and materials aren't always free!) and can also hook you up with other resources like schools outside of what's on base.
You may have more options than what "the lady" knew or told you about.
I believe you when you say you rocked, but you're still talking about rocking in middle school. In high school, science, spelling, and math aren't the names of classes anymore. They're replaced with things like chemistry, literature, and calculus.
If you really want to work toward a future career, you need to prepare yourself better than just passing a ged test. You're smart enough and seemingly driven enough to take a college prep approach.
This. Did you discuss fees?
This. I think it is going to be a lot harder than you think it's going to be. High school was difficult for me (mainly because I wasn't interested in it. I just wanted to graduate and get a job) and I went there 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for 4 years. I had FOUR YEARS to learn everything, not just a couple months or even a year.
I hope you don't think I'm drying to knock you down or be a DD, but I think you need to realize this might (and probably will) be a long and hard road.
Here are sample science questions. They're hard, and I majored in a science.
http://www.acenet.edu/Content/NavigationMenu/ged/test/science.htm
So, yes, science is tested, but the program I looked into didn't offer science prep. Weird. I wonder if that's b/c they can teach to the test more easily in science than writing skills.
So, yes, they're difficult but doable, especially if you're a good test taker. None of those questions actually required the outside knowledge you'd get from a science class. But I think they would be impossible if your last science class was when you were 11.
This x100!! Hahaha! H was in the kitchen and I yelled at him that I only missed one. He just laughed at me.
Oh and I missed the one about the salt. Meh.
They can help with FUNDING. GED courses are not free nor are the tests.
Please double check that. My BIL just got his GED and paid $25/class then paid $70 to take the complete test. I did a quick search and most places in your area are charging per block of study. Most of those places are charging between $30 and $40 per class, not semester.
I agree with TX. That doesn't sound right at all.
