Zimmerman in custody.

I am actually surprised they were able to track him down so fast. No source, AP Mobile alert.

Also, 2nd degree murder is the charge. What would a sentence for that look like if convicted?

Re: Zimmerman in custody.

  • I THINK 2nd degree murder in FL is = to a first degree felony, which means a prison sentence could be up to life, but do we have any FL attys on the board?

  • About time. I'm glad they found him. I was afraid he took the money and ran to Cuba.

True story: I have been licensed in FLA for longer than I care to recall, but I've never practiced a stitch of FLA law and don't know the first thing about it.  I took the FLA bar way back when because I had dreams of running away to Key West and representing the random client in between binges at Schooner Wharf and recovery breakfasts at Willie T's.

  • woops - sorry to double post. I just deleted mine - don't want to steal anyone's nestie points :-)

It's a minimum of 25 to life if convicted because he used a gun and shot someone.  FL has that 10-20-life law and it applies here.

I feel like she's seconds away from throwing out a "Bless your heart" if someone else asks her to talk about specifics of the case. She's keeping her cool really well.

  • She is pretty awesome. I love how she is cool and collected. She explains things very well.

    Love her.

Watched the entire press conference. People on facebook are saying she gave in to pressure, etc. I think she has WAY MORE evidence than we know about.......funny how all those crying for "justice!!!!!!!" didn't get their way and are bi*ching and boo-hooing. Justice doesn't mean "what I think is right".

Agreed. I was really impressed with her. The media present, OTOH should be ashamed of their idiotic questions.

  • I feel much better about the system after watching the press conference.  She handled it well.  She had to be thinking "WTF is wrong with you idiots!"

If he had gotten away with this, I would have to think that it is really easy to murder someone in Florida--just get them in a dark, secluded place, shoot them and say you felt you were in danger.  It is good to know there is more to it than that.

  • no way we know the whole story. Innocent until proved guilty.

glad he will be tried. time to clear his name or convict.

  • I read that he surrendered himself, so at least they didn't have to track him down. It will be fascinating to see how this all plays out.
