Thanks for posting your treadmill information in the previous post.  I've always felt the 6.0 on my treadmill is A LOT faster than a 10 minute mile that I do outside.  Do you feel having the foot pod for your Garmin has been worth it?

Re: *Mush-Tastic*

  • No problem!

My goodness...I had quite the revelation this winter when it comes to treadmill training. I have been coming back from multiple injuries and discovered that treadmill running was the one thing that helped me come back from those, albeit very boring. I ran most of winter living and breathing by what the display said on the treadmill feeling like I was a pile of crap for not being able to run my usual 9:30-9:40 pace since 6.0 felt like death to me. I spent 2 whole months walking away from all my runs mentally drained and felt like crap. I finally broke down and got a footpod to go with my Garmin because stuff wasn't adding up. I did calibrate it to my stride based on a 1/2 mile run so I knew it was more accurate. My mind was totally blown when I found out that the 5.6 I had been comfortably running for months was really my natural pace that I fall into regularly on the road.

Honestly it's scary how easily someone could overtrain if they use a treadmill consistently and go by what the machine tells them. When I was running 4 mile runs, I was really running around 4.5 and didn't realize it and so on with other distances.

I definitely think the footpod is a necessity if you have to do a lot of treadmill training for any reason with a Garmin. OR if you are doing any training on an indoor track. It's so easy to turn it on and off too. I just leave my footpod on my running shoe all the time.

    Hope that helps!
