Did a 2hr at-home whitening kit today and my teeth are killing me!

Did anything help you with sensitivity after a whitening process? I hope I can sleep tonight and even more, I hope it subsides by morning! I already took a couple of advil but they don't seem to be helping!

  • If you still feel discomfort in the morning go buy some Sensodyne toothpaste.

  • This will probably only help you for next time but my Dentist had me order some Gel-Kam from my pharmacy (my pharmacy didn't have it in stock but they got it for me quickly).  It doesn't require a Rx but you do have to get it from the pharmacy.  Just just put it on your toothbrush and brush with it for a minute then spit it out (don't swallow).  It eliminate the pain associated with bleaching.

I would just pop some Tylenol/Ibuprofen right now and take some tomorrow, too.

  • My understanding is that Sensodyne takes a while to start helping but I think the Gel-Kam will work right away.  HTH!
  • I had that happen a few years ago. Took some advil, went to sleep, and the pain was gone when I woke up. Hope you feel better soon! I can still vividly remember how awful that sensitivity was and as much as I want to whiten my teeth again, I'm kinda terrified :/

  • Try drink hot water. That's what my dentist had me do after I had mine done. It helped numb them
  • It should only last a day.  Granted it's a sucky day but you should feel better tomorrow.  What pp said is true about Sensodyne, that can take up to 2 weeks to kick in.  If you ever bleach again, you can prep by starting Sensodyne a couple weeks before bleaching.  If you try the 2 hour kind again, I would back it off to 1 hour.

  • Happy to report the pain didn't keep me awake and I feel fine today. Sad to report my teeth aren't much (if any) whiter. I used the Rembrandt 2-hr kit. I don't recommend it.
