Anyone from chicago area?

I have an awful trip to make next week that involves flying into Chicago at 11:30pm and needing to be  in Michigan (South Haven area) by mid-morning to work for the day. I'm thinking my best best is to stay in south Chicago metro area and drive to MI in the morning so I don't have to fight Chicago traffic in the morning.  Any suggestions for hotels along I-90/94?  Since I'll be getting there so late I want to make sure it's not too sketchy.

Re: Anyone from chicago area?

  • Are you flying into ORD? There's a Hilton at ORD that would be easy in/easy out.
    TTC on and off since April 2007. IUI#1 (50mg Clomid + Trigger) 3/14. BFP 3/25 at 11dpo. No heartbeat at 8 weeks on 4/26, D&C 4/27. IUI #2 7/22 (50mg Clomid +Trigger)= CP. IUI #3 8/16 = BFN. IUI#4 9/14= BFN. IVF#1 started 10/31; cancelled 11/15. New clinic; 1st visit 12/26. IVF #1 (take 2) cancelled. IVF#1 (take 3)Feb. 2013! 2/9/13 ER = 25 eggs. 24 M/22F. 5dt (SET)2/14. 2/25= BFP! Beta 372!
  • I would stay at hotel near airport.

  • I would suggest staying at the Crown Plaza on Madison & Halsted, just west of the loop. It is right off of 90/94. You won't have to deal with airport or loop traffic in the morning.
  • I'm flying into Midway which looks like it is in the middle of potential traffic.  I've been told morning traffic is horrendous which is why I was thinking of staying just outside of town so I could sleep in a little bit more instead of fighting downtown traffic.
  • I think you would be fine to stay at one of the hotels near midway. There are half a dozen hotels a few blocks south of the airport that should be fine. It's definitely not the best or most glamorous neighborhood, but the area closely surrounding the airport is pretty safe.  I55 has some inbound morning traffic, but nothing too terrible. If you take I55 to the Indiana toll road & then take I94, it should take you about 2.5 hours to get to South Haven.

This.  The midway hotels are fine, they are all grouped together.  pp gave good directions to get out of the area on to South Haven.  The only other option is to do part of your drive at night into Indiana and just stay off the highway in a Fairfield Inn or Hampton Inn place.  Or even right over the border into Michigan in St. Joseph's.  There is a Fairfield Inn off of 94 there that is nice about 1 hr and 20 min from midway if you are up for that drive depending on when you arrive.

  • Thanks ladies! I think I'll just stick with my hotel right there by the airport then.

  • I am, but I have no advice to add to what PPs said other than scout your breakfast beforehand since a lot of the midway hotels just put out bagels and fruit (says my mom, who has stayed at a few of them on visits).
