We didn't have Rascal Avoidance Check In yesterday

it made me sad.

I am down another 1.5 lbs.  eating a crap ton of veggies as the lettuces and asparagus are cropping up at csa.  also avocados, but that's not local so i feel bad, but not so bad i don't shove all that green delicious goodness in my mouth at record speed.  i've been making quiche twice a week since dh and i don't usually get enough protein and that has really helped with our weight loss.  my last volleyball group meeting was last night, no more until October.  sad panda.

Re: We didn't have Rascal Avoidance Check In yesterday

  • All my good intentions of working out went straight out the door earlier in the week when I got a last minute deadline. However, I have tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday off. Exercise is a top priority - double classes at the gym and running on the trail.

Good job getting in more protein KCB. Sorry about volleyball.

  • After a few weeks on the board I realize that this "rascal avoidance check in" is a weight loss thingy. So, I don't know anything about the back story but I did start the couch to 5 k this week and so far so good.

But does anyone else have a 4-4:30 pm total hunger insanity period? I am soooo hungry at this time and snacks don't satisfy me. I feel like an 80 year old who wants to eat dinner but I have to cook for the family so... Plus then I would be hungry again at 6...

  • My intentions of starting my 10k training have been derailed as I've only worked out 1x this week. I haven't been eating horribly though. I think I am down in weight but I haven't checked. I've been preoccupied.

  • Living with babycopz is like having a personal trainer.  Anyone want her?

We did a four mile walk on Easter, and she was sugar police all weekend as well as this week.  Managed a small run Monday..Tuesday we walked and last night we did 2.5 miles.  I plan on getting a run in tonight and maybe mowing the lawn, but it has been really cold here.

    Congrats everyone!

  • I ended up with what may have been food poisoning on Saturday and got sick again overnight Monday/Tuesday due to likely overdoing it with the food on Monday, so yesterday was my first run since Saturday AM (before I started feeling sick) and it felt glorious.  This may have been due to the fact that since I'm officially in "taper" mode, my speed workout was short and not THAT fast.  I just have to resist the urge to completely stuff my face now that my appetite is back in full force...which is not fun.  On the upside, J and I have eaten most of our Easter candy from my parents so that's no longer staring me in the face.

My half is officially 10 days away...yikes.  So my missions from now 'til 4/22 are to 1. not get hurt and 2. not get sick. Okay, and 3.  Don't eat all junk food all the time.

KCB do you have any quiche recipes that you particularly like?  Quiche is something I'd love to make more often but have no f'ing clue where to start.

  • This is well timed because I have a vent that's been eating me up (har har) the last couple of days.

Apparently all my eating better and working out over the last couple of weeks gained me 2 lbs as of Tuesday. Thank you AF. So that was awesome. Not. I had a sit-down with one of the trainers and he gave me all these numbers for calories and protein and etc etc for workout vs non-workout days and that was entirely overwhelming. Here I was all proud of myself for at least trying to make an effort to workout and eat healthier and after that I just felt pretty shiiity. I get that it all needs to work together, but I'm not trying to look like a damn trainer I just want to start making realistic adjustments that I can build on.

And since then this cold has been kicking my butt and I've been up half the night coughing so I haven't gone back to the gym since because that will just aggravate my asthma even further. I'm hoping by this weekend it will be better so I can sneak over for a work out.

She can come to my house.  I will pay her in puppydog snuggles.

    Seriously, send her here!

I managed a two mile run yesterday with a not-so crappy time, considering (for me, at least).  Still working on really counting points.

How is your protein to complex carb ratio?

I find alternating protein and carb snacks throughout the day help me avoid my ravenous periods. Plus are you eating every two-three hours?

I've been making these two like they are going out of style, both with premade pie crust, but both recipes include the ingredients for the tart dough.

edits:  i do a mix of heavy cream and half and half and a little bit more gruyere. you could use swiss cheese instead.

    http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Spinach-Red-Pepper-and-Feta-Quiche-11515

edits: i use a deep dish pie crust and increase the recipe by 1/2 to fill it properly.  only half and half in this one, but you could do a mix.  i break my crust off and share with kiddo and the dogs.

serve both with a large salad.  so yum and easy.  DH has become a quiche fiend.  i'm going to have to find a new recipe.  Mimi's cafe make a brie/asparagus one that i love, i will probably attempt to recreate that one next.

  • I'm a big fan of crustless quiche. I think you just add a half cup of light bisquick to a recipe and wallah a crustless quiche.

excellent tip, and better than deconstructing after the fact. :)

  • I'm blah this week - no weight lost but no gain either. Yay limbo!

Re: ravenous hunger- I agree that its something earlier in the day that is making you crash at about 4-4:30pm - it could even be a too carby breakfast. I find that when I have a bad episode, its because I've been trying to legitimize some food or meal plan that I shouldn't have.

I may not have NYC shopping but I do have all three of Columbus's malls within a 20 min radius of my house...

The irony is that, for NYC kids, this would be heaven. I took kids on a trip down South once, and they went absolutely apesh!t in the Walmart. It was embarrassing (not that they were excited for the Walmart, but that they acted like absolute fatheads).

  • I'm doing better on both the exercise and eating fronts.  I hired a trainer (it was my splurge after getting a PT job) to get me back in the groove of exercising.  I was derailed by a cold, and am going to have a tough weekend with travel to a wedding, but in general we're also eating better thanks to the CSA and a newfound love of kale.

Haven't weighed myself, so I'm not sure what my progress is, although I'm definitely getting stronger.

I will pay her in GREYHOUND snuggles.  Bam!

Also, I just have to AW myself.  I was 136 at the beginning of boot camp in late October.  Six months later I'm 122 and feeling amazing (I'm 5'4").  I resisted really cleaning up my diet, but as soon as I did it was like weight just started falling off.  I'm glad, but I do miss food.  I love to eat.  LOVE to eat.

I'm hoping to get to 115 or so.  That's a really good weight for me.  I look good and feel good there.  For now though, 122 is pretty awesome!!!

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the tips on avoiding the 4 pm crash. My brain knows I should eat smaller meals more often but for some reason it's not making me follow through.
