Fort Myers or Naples or Ft Lauderdale on 4th of July Week

We are going to Florida the first week of July I have 2 kids ages 4 & 6. We are flying into Ft Lauderdale because it is cheaper and the original plan was to drive to Ft Myers. But now I am wondering if another area might be nice. I have never been anywhere in Florida so I'm not sure of the differences. Something nice and family friendly where we can just mainly relax on the beach, hunt for shells. We will be there for the fourth of July so I was wondering if any areas get less family friendly during this time? Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Fort Myers or Naples or Ft Lauderdale on 4th of July Week

  • I've been to Fort Myers for work and was so very bored. There is no reason I would ever want to go back. I would def stay if Ft. Lauderdale is given the option.
  • I love Naples and Ft Lauderdale. It just depends on what you're looking for. Naples is much more laid back. They have some good shopping and just opened a much larger children's museum.

I haven't been to Ft Laudy over the 4th, but I would assume it's jam packed with people. If you're looking for something quieter, I highly recommend Naples.

  • I think Naples is much nicer...great ambience and not as much of the overbuilt nature of Ft Myers and Ft Lauderdale. The beaches downtown off 5th and 3rd avenue are great spots to watch the fireworks and there's a parade as well.

  • I'd pick Naples 1,000 times over Fort Lauderdale. For a family friendly, relaxing time it would be a great fit.
  • Thanks for your help! Everything I read about Naples says this it is upscale so I am worried about that with the kids. Is there plenty of things to take them to? It looks beautiful! I am really excited!
