Thursday FOTD (done early), makeup/skincare purchases and reviews

image

This is really my Wednesday face, but I won't have time to post Thursday morning.

Face:  Clinique BB, Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Dollface (first time wearing and LOVE!), Revlon Skinlights Illuminator on tops of cheeks, Cover Girl Clean pressed powder.

Eyes: Maybelling Color Tattoo in Too Cool (white), Maybelline Falsies mascara

Lips: NYX jumbo lipstick pencil in Iced Mocha, Rimmel Stay Glossy lip gloss in My Eternity.

This was my first time wearing the blush, lipstick and gloss.  I really love the Tarte blush and like the color dollface for my pale complexion.  I LOVE the NYX lip pencils and wish I had ordered  more colors.  I was looking for a nice brownish color, and the Iced Mocha is a nice, frosted color that I really like.  It isn't long wearing, but I don't mind reapplying after eating and such, especially since it's so cheap.  The Rimmel gloss is okay.  The color is nice, but it comes off very quickly.  I like my glosses a little more sticky and long wearing.  The price can't be beat, though, and for a cheap gloss I'm happy.

  • I picked this foundation brush at Target yesterday. I saw it in a magazine and liked it.

I only tried using a foundation brush once, and it was . . . weird.  I've used makeup sponges and my fingers, but see a lot of people on here using brushes.  So, explain to me how brushes are good?  Do you use it for all over the face, or just to get the foundation in certain areas like creases by the nose and up to the eyes?

  • I go to a Korean hair salon in NYC and I got a color and cut today.  I asked my stylist about BB creams.  She said she gets hers from Korea from her relative (all Korean brands), but she mentioned that American/Western BB creams are popular in Korea like Dior and Clinique.  I thought that was interesting.  So, I asked what her personal favorite was and she said it was Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer.  So back to square one.

I went to a Korean beauty store across the street called The Face Shop.  It's like a mini Sephora with beauty products made in Korea, all The Face Shop brand (so no Missha or Skin79).  I bought a BB cream, a lip tint with SPF, a nose clay mask for blackheads, and a one-time face mask made with mung beans (for a glowing complexion).

I also went to Sally Beauty Supply and bought Hair One in Tea Tree Oil (the cheaper dupe for Wen).

I'll write reviews once I try them out a couple of times.

  • Mavjen - I've never heard of a nose clay mask and look forward to hearing about it.  I'm also looking forward to the review of Hair One, as I've been trying to decide if I should splurge for Wen, or try Hair One first.
  • I can't wait to try the nose white clay mask, I read a few reviews raving about it and how it blows biore strips out of the water.  I really need this now, my nose is blackhead central. Plus the tube was only $6.

I will let you know about the hair one next week, I want to finish my remaining shampoo and conditioner, I hate to waste.

Eta: I use a foundation brush.  I find it absorbs the least product and gives an even finish, and it gets in there for around the nose and eyes.  My prescriptives brush has lasted me over 10 years with frequent cleanings.  It's finally on its last legs.

  • I'm glad you like the Tarte blush! Dollface is my favorite too...when you get adventureous try Natural Beauty and Amused too...but dollface is still my favorite :)

Mav, I totally need this too! My nose is blackhead nation, LOL.  Biore strips are a joke... where else do you think I could find this stuff? Does it work as a pore minimizer too?

I tried it out last night, EB.  It was okay, not great.  It only took out a couple of blackheads.  It had the consistency of melted marshmallows, but it peels off.  Maybe I should try again with more product.  But my skin felt so clean and super soft.  I will give it a few more tries and let you know.

If you are searching for a similar product, the main ingredients are white mud and burdock extract.  I don't think the face shop products are available online but I think they may have shops on Canada.
